Dismantle unequal power relations & patriarchal systems by transforming masculinities & working with men/boy in feminism
About us
MenEngage Alliance is a space for organizations and individuals to come together in solidarity with those most targeted by gender injustice and patriarchal systems to collectively dismantle structural barriers to gender equality, climate and social justice. As a global network, we bring together people and organizations with a shared vision of a world in which gender justice and human rights are recognized, promoted and protected, where all people are equal and free from discrimination and oppression. Our work with men and boys stems from the pioneering work and ongoing leadership of women’s rights and LGBTQI movements. This means we root our understanding of the world in feminist theory and an understanding that patriarchy is a system at the centre of women’s and LGBTQI person’s human rights violations and gender inequalities. The mission of MenEngage Alliance is to transform unequal power relations and dismantle patriarchal systems by: - Transforming patriarchal masculinities and rigid, harmful norms around ‘being a man’ - Working with men and boys on gender justice through intersectional feminist approaches - Building inclusive collaborations from local to regional to global levels - Developing joint actions in partnership with and accountability to women’s rights, gender- and other social justice movements.

MenEngage Alliance reposted this
📢 At the #EcoMenSummit2024, we had the honor of hearing from Nayoka Martinez Bäckström, First Secretary of the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, who shared powerful words on the impact of the EcoMen initiative: "As an initiative, EcoMen aims to address gender biases and stereotypes in order to strengthen environmental stewardship in communities. There are a number of lessons and results being produced by EcoMen which are very relevant and can be shared elsewhere. EcoMen has shown that it has the possibilities to continue to be not just a project, but a long-term movement for changing mindsets and improving the way environmental development and resilience can be achieved." Her words are a reminder of the potential EcoMen holds—not just as a project but as a movement to shift mindsets, promote gender equality, and create sustainable, resilient communities. 🌍💚 laxman लक्ष्मण belbase बेल्वासे MenEngage Alliance MÄN. Engaging men in care work is a powerful catalyst for achieving #genderequality and fostering a world where everyone can thrive. When men actively participate in #caregiving, they help create a more equitable distribution of responsibilities. This shift not only nurtures healthier relationships but also ignites a broader societal transformation that benefits us all. To reimagine care is to reshape society as a whole. By involving men in caregiving, we challenge the harmful patriarchal norms that have long undervalued this vital work, shining a light on the essential contributions that care encompasses. Together, we can build a world where caregiving is celebrated, and where the act of caring knows no gender! Let’s unite in this mission to elevate the value of care, mobilise men and boys to take a fair share in the responsibilities and rewards of caregiving and create a more equitable future for all. #InternationalDayofCareAndSupport #EqualityInAction #CareForChange #MenCare #ShareTheCare

The latest episode of the #NowandMen podcast is out. MenEngage members Stephen Burrell and Sandy Ruxton to another long-time member of the Alliance, Rob Okun. Rob is a longstanding profeminist activist who edited and published Voice Male Magazine for many years. This episode explores the gendered dynamics of the Presidential Election in the US, whether a 'new masculinity' is emerging, and men's growing support for abortion rights. Have a listen on all good podcast apps and at https://lnkd.in/e68BwJmD, and join the Now and Men Facebook page: https://lnkd.in/eYQs6Zne 🎧
We have a 'US Election Special' #NowandMen out today, with longstanding profeminist activist Rob A. Okun! We ask: from men's rising support for abortion rights to sensitive leaders like Tim Walz, is a 'new #masculinity' emerging in the US, in the face of Trump/Vance's misogyny and attempts to exploit some men's grievances? 🗳️🇺🇸 We also talk to Rob about what he has learnt during 40 years of involvement in the US profeminist men's movement and groups like the MenEngage Alliance, and his experience of developing the amazing Voice Male magazine, which he published and edited from 1996 to 2023, and recently handed over to Next Gen Men! https://lnkd.in/e-gKm2yd

🗓️This #DayOfTheGirl is a reminder that girls have a vision for gender justice, and that men and boys can act as allies in the realisation of this vision.

As global politics evolve, masculinity is increasingly being used as a tool to stoke fear and anxiety. In the #USElections, for example, we're seeing conservative narratives that equate leadership with dominant ideas masculinity. This trend isn’t isolated to the U.S.—it’s a global phenomenon. We are an alliance of thousands of organisations and individuals working every day to challenge and dismantle the idea that being a man is about power, control, dominance, or aggression. And to help more men and boys break down - and break free from - limited notions of how they should act or think based on "being a man". The work our members do around the world is essential to ending gender based inequalities and violence, and building a just and equitable society for all. Not to mention helping boys and men to live more authentic, connected, healthier and happier lives - for themselves and the people around them. To read more about how this is playing out in the U.S. Elections, read this article from The Guardian

🗓️ 28 September | International Safe Abortion Day 🗓️ 🌍 Reproductive rights are human rights, and everyone—regardless of gender—has a role in supporting these rights. It’s time for men and boys to step up as allies in the movement for #AbortionSolidarity. 📢 When men and boys actively support reproductive justice, they help challenge harmful gender norms, reduce stigma, and promote bodily autonomy for all. Standing in solidarity with women and people of all genders ensures that no one is left behind in the struggle for equal rights. 💬 Being an ally means listening, learning, and advocating for policies that protect access to safe abortion—without judgment or discrimination. 👥 check out these video messages from male-identified members of MenEngage Alliance, calling on other men to step up as allies for access to safe, legal abortion everywhere: https://buff.ly/3TFgPSD #InternationalSafeAbortionDay #SafeAbortion #ReproductiveJustice #BodilyAutonomy #MenAndBoys #FeministMen #AbortionRights
