  • Wishing our Mercy Family a wonderful Rosh Hashanah! May your celebrations be peaceful and your reflections fruitful. Shanah tovah! This evening at sundown, our Jewish colleagues, patients and families will gather in homes and synagogues to mark the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days, a 10-day period of reflection, prayer and renewal. During this time, individuals reflect on the past year, seeking forgiveness and reconciliation with others, and look forward to the new year with hope and positivity. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of gratitude, forgiveness, and personal growth. As we honor this sacred time, let us also reflect on our shared hope for peace in our communities and throughout the world. Mercy's Pastoral Care department is available to serve our Jewish community members in observing this special time.

  • Today is Mercy Day! On September 24, 1827, Catherine McAuley opened the original House of Mercy to serve the poor women and children of Dublin, Ireland. The Sisters of Mercy chose this date as their community feast day. "Mercy Day is a special celebration for all members of the Mercy Family to remember our origins and the rich Mercy tradition. It is an opportunity for each of us to pause and reflect on our name—Mercy—and what it truly means to each of us. The celebration takes on added significance this year as Mercy approaches its 150th anniversary in November." - Dr. David Maine, President & CEO of Mercy Health Services We honor and celebrate our mission of service to the Greater Baltimore community to provide excellent clinical services within a community of compassionate care. We cherish our values of Dignity, Hospitality, Justice, Excellence, Stewardship, and Prayer—all of which were fundamental to the works of the first Sisters of Mercy when Catherine McAuley opened the original House of Mercy. Here at Mercy Medical Center, we will honor Mercy Day this week with the annual Service Awards Ceremony for employees celebrating a milestone work anniversary and with a free meal for employees at our downtown hospital and Mercy Personal Physician sites around the greater Baltimore area.
