Aru, with 10+ years of experience building and scaling data teams, currently leads the Revenue Analytics team at Remote, a global HR platform that helps tens of thousands of companies hire, pay, and manage talent anywhere in the world. 💡 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙚𝙮 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖? 1) Persuasive storytelling skills are essential…people do not change their minds because of data and facts, but because they believe in a story. 2) One cannot master everything in such a fast-evolving field. One should pick their area of strengths, and have a working knowledge of the others. 🔮 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚? Something I am very keen on is the opportunity provided by AI to analyze textual and/or image data and extract value from it. Natural Language Processing ML models are pretty tricky to implement, even for skilled data scientists, and being able to utilize Large Language Models (LLMs) to extract information from non-tabular data is a great opportunity. I am also excited that tools like CoPilot and/or ChatGPT etc take some of focus away from memorizing the syntax excessively for Python/SQL, so that people can focus on the actual problem more deeply. 🤝 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨? I try to abstract away from the exact data points and fancy statistical techniques and ask end users (e.g. in sales/product/marketing) to specify the pain points and the problems they are trying to solve. This creates many advantages: 1) The team is more motivated when they understand why the problem matters. 2) It helps everyone to rethink quick solutions, leading to stronger and more creative answers. 3) We can often adapt previous work to solve the current issue better. 🧰 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙘𝙠? We use Snowflake as the central DWH, and dbt Labs for data modeling. As an organization, we are principally hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). 🕹️ 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙈𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙙𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙬?  Fundamentally, it has been very helpful in creating simple dashboards by querying the data directly, and then aggregating and filtering it for the business use case. The time spent in prototyping was minimal, and it ensured that we kept things moving for the organization during a period of rapid growth. Really value your thoughts, Aru! Enjoying the series?
