About us

Since 1963, Methodist Healthcare has continuously evolved to meet the growing needs of the greater San Antonio community. Our commitment has never wavered in consistently improving the health and wellness of our community by living our mission of "Serving Humanity to Honor God by providing exceptional and cost-effective healthcare accessible to all." Methodist Healthcare is a 50-50 co-ownership between Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc., South Texas’s largest non-public funding source of community healthcare for uninsured patients, and HCA Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. This creates a unique partnership that ensures Methodist Healthcare Ministries continues to benefit the community by providing quality care to all and charitable care when needed. Methodist Healthcare invested $818 million in charity and indigent care to the community in 2022 alone. With 30 facilities, including 10 hospitals and 10 freestanding emergency departments, the Methodist Healthcare team is comprised of 13,000 employees, making the system the second-largest private employer in San Antonio. With more than 3,500 credentialed physicians, Methodist Healthcare provides the largest array of medical services in the region, including neurosurgery, cardiovascular services, oncology, and women’s services. “As I became a leader, a Latina leader, a female leader, I wanted to empower that when I saw it in someone… To me, that is very impactful, to be able to help those individuals learn and grow. I’ve seen someone invest in me, so I think having someone do that for me allowed me to be able to pass that down.” Carmen Vazquez, Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety at Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills, set to open next month, shares her journey in healthcare. Starting her career with Methodist Healthcare 22 years ago as a graduated nurse, she credits her parents’ work ethic and inspiration as the foundation of her hard work and reflects on the investment from leaders along the way. As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize team members like Carmen, who embody this year’s theme of “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.” At Methodist Healthcare, we strive to foster an engaged and inclusive culture for our patients, colleagues, and the communities we serve. Today and every day, we honor the experiences, stories, and traditions interwoven in the rich tapestry of Hispanic culture and recognize the accomplishments that have shaped our nation and continue to move us forward. #HispanicHeritageMonth #CareLikeFamily #SAHealth #MethodistHealthcareSA

  • In the wake of Hurricane Helene's impact on the Southeast, especially North Carolina, our Methodist Healthcare EMS Relations Team was deployed to Asheville, NC. Our MHS EMS Relations Managers are there to provide support and comfort to the staff at local hospitals and first responders with the help of our Trauma Response Facility Dogs. Not only are these dog and handler teams providing relief to the healthcare colleagues local to Asheville, but they were also able to reconnect with some of our Methodist team members who are currently providing support at those hospitals. Our Trauma Response Facility Dog Handlers are specially trained in crisis management, equipping them with the skills to respond to and support those affected by such events, including first responders and hospital staff. As we continue to support those recovering from #HurricaneHelene, our thoughts and prayers also go out to those in Florida who may be grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Our commitment to supporting those affected by these disasters remains steadfast. #MethodistHealthcareSA #EMS #traumaresponse #CareLikeFamily Mission Health HCA Healthcare

The impacts of Hurricane Helene in the Southeast have been devastating for so many, including healthcare workers. Through challenging days, they have selflessly served their community and cared for patients without hesitation. Recently, more than 225 team members from Methodist Healthcare volunteered to travel to the Southeast to provide relief and support; many of them are currently in North Carolina. "I am grateful to each colleague for this immediate and selfless act, extending our mission of Serving Humanity to Honor God beyond our service area," shared Dan Miller, President and CEO of Methodist Healthcare. We are proud to support fellow healthcare professionals as their communities continue to recover. We thank them for their ongoing commitment to the care and improvement of human life. To all those impacted, our hearts are with you and your families. #hurricanehelene #MethodistHealthcareSA #HurricaneRelief

  • “They all work as one for the benefit of the patient. Every one of us here who has been through that team is a tribute to their care.” Methodist Hospital hosted a heartfelt celebration honoring the remarkable recoveries of more than 100 patients who have received Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) treatment. This life-saving support therapy temporarily takes over the function of the heart and lungs when a patient's own organs are too weak or sick to do so, giving their heart and lungs time to heal and regain function. The event was a beautiful testament to our medical team's dedication and, more importantly, to the inspiring resilience of our ECMO patients, who have shown us that hope and recovery are always possible. Methodist Hospital is the primary ECMO provider for one of the largest regions in Texas and the only program of its kind that reaches as far west as El Paso and as far south as McAllen, ensuring more patients have access to this life-saving treatment. • "Some people may call it a curse, but I always call it a blessing, because it was like my life's purpose was defined when I was 12." Dr. Lorimar Ramirez, a pediatric hematologist oncologist at Methodist Children's Hospital, experienced her own battle against cancer as a young girl. Today, she uses her experiences to drive her mission to help children battling this disease. She's not just a doctor but a beacon of hope and inspiration. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a time to raise awareness of pediatric cancer and support those affected by it. It is also a time to honor the incredible staff and physicians who care for these patients with so much love each day. #CareLikeFamily #MethodistHealthcareSA #SAHealth #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #CancerSurvivor
