It’s not every day that a city gets to design a downtown from scratch. But in Eagle Mountain, that’s exactly what we’ve done. With the completion of our Downtown Master Plan, we’ve laid out an exciting and thoughtful vision for a vibrant city center—one that reflects the values, needs, and aspirations of our community. From just 250 residents in 1996 to over 73,000 today—and with a projected buildout of 175,000+ residents in the next 30 years—Eagle Mountain’s rapid growth has given us a rare opportunity: to learn from great cities across the country, adapt best practices to our own style, and embrace modern approaches to urban design. But one thing remained non-negotiable: preserving the small-town character that makes Eagle Mountain special. Our downtown won’t just be a collection of buildings—it will be a hub of community life, designed to thrive for generations to come while still feeling like home. A huge thank you to J. Ryan Wallace AIA, AICP, Vincent Olcott, and Emily Seang at MHTN Architects, in addition to Brent Crowther and Eric Sweat, P.E. at Kimley-Horn, Chris Zahas, Adam Lipsey at Leland Consulting Group, and Dayton Law at Civil Solutions Group, Inc. for guiding and assisting us through this process with expertise and vision. These teams, especially the MHTN crew, been instrumental in helping us craft a plan that is both ambitious and deeply rooted in what makes Eagle Mountain unique. At the heart of this plan are a few key principles: 🔹 A Resident-Focused Design – We wanted to engage the public so much that they would almost get sick of hearing from us. At every step and through multiple channels, we sought feedback, ensuring that this downtown truly reflects the community’s voice. 🔹 Opportunities for Small Businesses – Creating a dynamic environment where local entrepreneurs can flourish. This was crucial for us so we can better adapt to a world that is difficult for small businesses to get their start. 🔹 Amenities That Connect to Nature – Thoughtful green spaces and trails that embrace our city’s landscape. Spaces to host our Farmers Market and annual ShopFest Utah event which hosts 300+ small businesses in one day. 🔹 Flexible Public Facilities – Civic spaces that serve multiple functions to maximize their value and impact for the public. 🔹 A Small-Town Feel with Big-City Possibilities – Thoughtful architecture, walkability, and gathering spaces designed to foster a sense of community, no matter how much we grow. Perhaps most exciting, we’re ready to move fast. With the City owning the property, we have the ability to begin making this vision a reality sooner rather than later. This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment for Eagle Mountain, and I can’t wait to see this downtown take shape.
