  • Rooted in Culture. Inspired by the Land. Amid the breathtaking expanse of Monument Valley, a place of deep cultural and spiritual significance, construction is underway for Utah State University’s Monument Valley Education and Community Center. This project is more than just a building–it’s a tribute to the rich traditions of the Diné (Navajo) people and the profound connection between land, sky, and learning. Honoring Father Sky – At the heart of the design, a monitor skylight graces the central commons, symbolizing the vast celestial expanse above. Grounded in Mother Earth – A circular in-ground feature, with a symbolic tree and stones, serves as a sacred reflection of the land’s enduring strength and wisdom. Every element of this center is inspired by the land and the people who have called it home for generations. We are honored to contribute to a space that will foster education, community, and cultural continuity in this truly extraordinary and sacred place. #MonumentValley #UtahStateUniversity #HonoringTradition #Big-DConstruction #NavajoCulture #InspiredByTheLand

  • With the design of Herriman’s Fire Station 103 completed, the 2-bay, 2-level, 7,298 s.f. station will accommodate 6 firefighters, including the captain. A second level mezzanine, off the apparatus bay, provides a flexible indoor training area. Once construction is completed in early 2026, Herriman’s newest fire station will feature healthy spaces for firefighters to recover and enjoy. These spaces include a fully appointed kitchen, day room, dining room, exercise room, interior and exterior courtyards, and private sleeping quarters with full bathrooms.

  • Currently under construction, Utah State University’s re-imagined Skyroom restaurant in the Taggart Student Center has been designed to provide an upscale dining experience for students, faculty, staff, and the general public with a complete renovation and make-over that is slated for completion in the summer of 2025. The restaurant is envisioned as a sit-down, full-service interior and exterior dining experience with an open presentation kitchen, prominently featured soup and salad bar, and an innovative menu that focuses on fresh food grown primarily in Cache County. ajc’s design team and daw Construction Group have been working in close collaboration with numerous USU stakeholders to create a unique and elevated dining experience with stunning views of the Bear River Mountains to the east.

  • Construction progresses on the new Utah State University Monument Valley Education Building in Oljato-Monument Valley, UT. The facility will primarily serve members of the Navajo Nation when it opens for the 2026 spring semester. The new USU Education and Community Center will feature contemporary classrooms, computer labs, a nursing and CNA lab, a Career and Technical Education lab, a small business development area, a welding lab, facilities for adult education and a USU Extension office, as well as administrative and faculty offices. The new facility also provides space for community events and public gatherings. ajc is honored to be a part of this effort to offer educational opportunities to regional tribal members, while creating a broader sense of community. Our team would also like to acknowledge our collaborative partnerships with USU stakeholders, our consultant team, and Big-D construction.

  • Fremont Indian State Park celebrates the Fremont Culture that inhabited most of Utah from 1 to 1301 BCE. The park’s museum preserves artifacts and treasures discovered during the construction of I-70, west of Sevier, UT, in the late 1960’s. The museum will be completely renovated and updated and will reopen to the public in late Spring of 2026. We feel privileged to be a part of this historically and culturally significant project in collaboration with museum exhibit designer, The Design Minds, the State of Utah, Department of Natural Resources, State Parks, and Utah’s tribal representatives. Our thanks to The Design Minds for the project sketches.
