We love helping students explore careers that protect our environment and public health! Our team recently connected with students at MiCareerQuest, using hands-on activities and demonstrations to bring careers in engineering, water quality, and remediation to life. “Engaging with students at this age helps spark curiosity about careers in environmental protection, water quality, and sustainability—fields critical to Michigan’s future,” said Eileen Boekestein, EGLE’s Environmental Education Coordinator. "By sharing our expertise, we empower young minds to see how they can make a real impact in their communities and beyond.” Meet Phillip, Leslie, and Daniel—three of our passionate professionals—who shared insights into their work, career paths, and advice for students exploring a future in environmental science! ⬇️ #TeamEGLE #MiEnvironment

Reed City is making significant strides in addressing its aging water infrastructure, with more than $35 million in state funding. These investments are improving water quality, replacing lead service lines, and modernizing wastewater systems—ensuring safe, reliable water service for residents. Last week, EGLE Director Phil Roos joined state and local leaders for a tour of the city’s facilities, highlighting the impact of these critical upgrades. Reed City has already replaced 90% of its lead service lines and is on track to finish by year’s end. “Safe, clean water is a fundamental right, and Michigan is leading the way in ensuring communities like Reed City have the resources they need to upgrade their infrastructure,” said Director Roos. “These investments don’t just protect public health—they create jobs, strengthen local economies and make sure that every Michigander has access to reliable drinking water.” This work is part of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s $5.3 billion commitment to water infrastructure, which has created 75,000+ jobs and strengthened communities across Michigan. #MIEnvironment #MICleanWater

Across the U.S., households and businesses lose nearly 1 trillion gallons of water each year due to leaks, wasting money and resources. Fix a Leak Week (March 17-23) is a reminder to check for and repair leaks that drive up water bills and strain infrastructure. Many fixes take just 10 minutes and can prevent costly damage while protecting Michigan’s water. Fixing leaks isn’t just about conservation—it reduces costs, prevents property damage, and supports sustainability for homes, businesses, and municipalities. EGLE’s Office of the Clean Water Public Advocate encourages everyone to take action.
