The primary role of Government Relations is to advocate on behalf of Michigan State University by building and promoting positive relationships with federal, state, and local policymakers and stakeholders to ensure legislative funding and policy initiatives reflect the needs of MSU.

Wonderful time on Mackinac Island this week for the policy conference! Enjoyed honoring Senator Stabenow for her years of service, talking employer talent needs with fellow university presidents and getting out for an early morning run to see the sunrise.
This morning, Michigan State University had the honor of hosting Senator Peters' Military Legislative Assistants. The visit highlighted several pivotal projects and collaborations at MSU that are making significant contributions to national defense and public health. Key discussions included: 1. Autonomous Vehicle Research: In partnership with the Ground Vehicle Systems Center, MSU is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge autonomous vehicle technologies. 2. Department of Defense Funded Medical Research: MSU's ongoing medical research, funded by the DoD, is leading to innovative breakthroughs. 3. PFAS Research: The visit concluded with a summary of MSU's research on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Our scientists are tackling these persistent environmental contaminants, aiming to safeguard public health and the environment. We are proud of the impactful work being done at MSU and grateful for the opportunity to showcase these efforts. Together, we are driving innovation and making strides toward a safer, healthier future.

Members and guests of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce were recently given the opportunity to tour the MSU Museum, which is the first Smithsonian Affiliate museum in the state. The MSU Museum is a collaborative and experimental space that encourages people from different disciplines and interests to come together and express and experiment with ideas. Since 1857, the museum has been collecting objects and specimens, and creating exhibitions that showcase different histories and experiences. Thank you to Michigan State University Government Relations for partnering with us and making this event possible.
Recently, graduate students from MSU and U of M joined together in Washington D.C. to participate in the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s (AAAS) Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) workshop, which culminated in a day of meetings with the Michigan congressional delegation and other offices on Capitol Hill. Thank you to the science-focused policy staff for their time and thoughtful engagement with our student leaders!
Yesterday a group of MSU AGEP grad students spent a day at the Capitol. The MSU AGEP program is designed to recruit, retain and graduate U.S. students who are historically underrepresented in the STEM, social, behavioral and economic sciences. Thank you to Spartans, Speaker Joe Tate, Representative Julie Brixie, and Representative Penelope Tsernoglou for taking time to meet with the AGEP students and opportunity to learn more about the MI Legislature. Thanks to the many other House members that took a moment to greet us.
