Our thoughts are with the Melvindale Police Department as one of their officers was killed in the line of duty this week. Our hearts are heavy as we keep Officer Mohamed Said, his family, loved ones, and colleagues in our thoughts. Officer Said is the third officer from Michigan to be killed in less than a month. Very proud of our own Detective Sergeant Aaron Schroeder for being a highlighted speaker at the 2024 Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Summit this week! He presented on LGBTQ+ topics, trauma, and law enforcement to an audience that included police, prosecutors, advocates, and medical staff from across the state.

We are sad to learn of the on-duty death of a deputy from the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office, the second police officer to be killed this week in Michigan. Our hearts are heavy as we keep Deputy William Butler, his family, loved ones, and colleagues in our thoughts. Our thoughts are with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office as we learned today that one of their deputies was killed in the line of duty last night. Our hearts are heavy as we keep Deputy Bradley Reckling, his family, loved ones, and colleagues in our thoughts. We had a great time welcoming our community into our department for Take Your Child to Work Day! Families had the opportunity to tour our department headquarters and Emergency Operations Center, meet our K9s and comfort dog, sit inside of our patrol vehicles, learn about fingerprinting, what to do in an emergency, and more. Last week we were fortunate to hold the Transforming Policing By Advancing Women in the Field event with Maureen Q. McGough as our featured speaker. Maureen then led an excellent panel discussion with local women in the policing field including: Sarah Krebs - Michigan State Police Beth Frazier - Lansing, MI Police Department Kim Parviainen - Michigan State University Police and Public Safety Their insights, advice to students, and lessons learned are helping the next generation of women in policing.
