About us
The Military Spouse JD Network is a bar association for military spouses. We support military spouses in the legal professions by: * advocating for bar membership without examination for military spouse attorneys in every state, * educating the community about the challenges facing military families, and * providing a network for spouses to connect with and support each other. MSJDN includes military spouses and partners from all five branches of the United States Military: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy as well as spouses of retired service members and legal and military organizations who support our mission. MSJDN provides a model rule for bar licensing authorities interested in supporting military families through admission without examination of military spouse attorneys. MSJDN supports such a rule change in each jurisdiction.

We are asking for your help, yet again, by providing support for military families facing the challenges associated with a permanent change of station (PCS). We are calling on you to support the Senate Amendments 3029, 2876, and 2414 - IMPROVEMENTS FOR FEDERALLY EMPLOYED MILITARY SPOUSES of S.4638 National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25 NDAA). Why This Matters: The transient nature of military life presents significant challenges for military spouses. PCS's often demand a spouse choose between their employment or their family. If approved, these amendments aim to enhance federal employees' flexibility, offering increased paid leave, ensuring TSP retention, and granting career relocation opportunities. How You Can Help: Send letters to members of Congress urging them to support the inclusion of this vital provision during the joint conference for the final markup of the FY25 NDAA. Personalize Your Letter: > We've provided a template for you to use. Please tailor the letter to include your personal story and your individual experiences with PCSing to make it more impactful. Access the template here: https://lnkd.in/dtH28Pg7 To edit the template click File -> Make Copy. Once complete, be sure to [INSERT YOUR NAME] at the bottom of the letter. > Send Your Letter to Your Congressional Representatives: You can locate your Congressional representatives using this link: https://lnkd.in/grup5-2 Note: You are considered a constituent of both where you live AND where you are stationed (if different). > Send Your Letter to Key Committee Members: Focus on members of the House Armed Services Committee and Senate Armed Services Committee. You can find the members here: House Armed Services Committee: https://lnkd.in/dXBM4zCH Senate Armed Services Committee: https://lnkd.in/ddS-TW9C Take Action Now: Please take a few moments to personalize your letter and reach out to your representatives today. Your voice is crucial in advocating for the inclusion of these vital provisions in the FY25 NDAA. Special Thanks: We would like to extend a special thank you to MSJDN member Megan Konzen for her invaluable assistance in drafting the supporting documents and spearheading our federal campaign. Thank you for your support and dedication to improving the lives of military families. If you have any questions or need assistance, please email statelicensing@msjdn.org.

‼️ CALL TO ACTION We need your help to ensure military spouse attorneys can continue their legal careers without unnecessary barriers. We are calling on you to support Section 1091 of S. 4638 - FY25 NDAA – Improvements relating to portability of professional licenses of servicemembers and their spouses, which aims to improve the portability of professional licenses for servicemembers and their spouses. ❓Why This Matters The transient nature of military life presents significant challenges for military spouse attorneys, who face state-specific licensing requirements that often lead to career interruptions and financial instability. Section 1091 of S. 4638 addresses this critical issue by facilitating greater career stability and economic security for military families. This important provision eliminates the current prohibition for attorneys under Section 705A of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, excluding attorney licensure from the requirements of the Act and relying upon the states and territories to address attorney licensure individually should they so desire. 🆘 How You Can Help Send letters to members of Congress urging them to support the inclusion of this vital provision during the joint conference for the final markup of the FY25 NDAA: 1️⃣ Personalize Your Letter: We've provided a template for you to use. Please tailor the letter to include your individual experiences with licensing to make it more impactful. Access the template here: https://ow.ly/mNuo50SJmNJ 2️⃣ Send Your Letter to Your Congressional Representatives: You can locate your Congressional representatives using this link: https://ow.ly/cZEB50SJmNN 3️⃣ Send Your Letter to Key Committee Members: Focus on members of the House Armed Services Committee and Senate Armed Services Committee. To find emails for each member and their staffers, click here: https://ow.ly/J8Q450SJmNK 💥 Take Action Now Please take a few moments to personalize your letter and reach out to your representatives today. Your voice is crucial in advocating for the inclusion of this vital provision in the FY25 NDAA. It will make a concrete difference in the lives of military families, ensuring that military spouse attorneys can maintain their careers and financial independence regardless of geographic relocation. 📃 Special Thanks We would like to extend a special thank you to MSJDN member Megan Konzen for her invaluable assistance in drafting the supporting documents and assisting with our federal advocacy campaign. Thank you for your support and dedication to improving the lives of military families. If you have any questions or need assistance, please email statelicensing@msjdn.org. #SupportMilitarySpouses #FY25NDAA #LegalCareers #MilitaryFamilies #MSJDN ⚖️

The DOL Women's Bureau hosted a webinar on the state of licensing for military spouses. Because attorneys have been excluded from the general licensing waiver rule for militaryspouses, MSJDN was invited to speak specifically to issues affecting military spouse attorneys.
