#ThrowbackThursday to last week at the 2024 Military Influencer Conference in Atlanta! It was an incredible experience where I had the honor of meeting some amazing individuals, including Chief Master Sergeant JoAnne (Jo) Bass, rapper and activist Killer Mike, comedian Donnell Rawlings, and Tim Jensen from Grunt Style. Each of them was incredibly gracious and personable, making the experience unforgettable. A huge thank you to my teammate Daniel Chan for joining me on this journey. Your support and partnership made the experience even more meaningful. Feeling grateful for the opportunity to connect with such an inspiring community. I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned and keep growing in both my professional and personal life. #MilitaryInfluencer #MICATL2024 #Veterans #Leadership #Networking #TBT

Reflecting on the 2024 Military Influencer Conference (MIC), I can honestly say it was well worth it! Meeting so many incredible people— #Veterans, spouses, entrepreneurs, and allies—who are making big moves in our community was inspiring. The energy was electric, and the connections I made will stay with me long after the event. Killer Mike‘s performance was 🔥 and the perfect vibe to transcend such a powerful experience! A huge shoutout to all the comedians, especially Thom Tran who brought humor as both our keynote speaker and comedian, and Donnell Rawlings, who kept us laughing. They reminded us of the power of laughter in building community and resilience. Special thanks to USAA for sponsoring and supporting this incredible event. Here’s to turning those connections into collaborations and driving change together! There are so many people to tag! Just thank everyone who has been a consistent presence in my life! #GovConMoney🤑 #MilitaryInfluencerConference #VeteranNetwork #KillerMike #ThomTran #DonnellRawlings #USAA #BuildingConnections #VeteranCommunity #Networking #Gratitude #InspiringPeople #Collaboration #GameChangers #MilitaryEntrepreneurs #MIC2024 #MakingAnImpact

To wrap up my week about the Military Influencer Conference in Atlanta last week, here are my takeaways:     -Nothing better than being able to see, meet, speak with, learn about, and more with those in our military and veteran space.   -There are so many resources, organizations, and people who are moving the needle to ensure that our community is never forgotten and taken care of.   -You can never know everything or everyone, but you can always ask how you can help someone.   -Being your authentic self goes a long way and leaves a better impact than any and all those faking the funk. Be real and honest about who you are and what you have going on. People will connect with you and find ways to be there for you.   -Take a risk and go up to those you are a fan of and introduce yourself. I made many friends this year (and at previous MICs) doing this. Egos are checked at the door at this conference.   -Pace yourself. You cannot do it all nor should you try to.   -I will spend the next few weeks and months conducting follow-up conversations to learn about those I met at MIC and finding ways to collaborate. This is the most important part of the conversations. Build momentum.   -Being active on the Whova app adds to the value of the conference and keeps you up-to-date about any changes or updates from the organizers and other attendees. I was abe to add value through it.   -Curtez Riggs and his team (staff and volunteers) put together an amazing conference. We can always try to pick this or that a part, but it was a huge success on many levels, and 95% of those attending will never understand everything that goes into pulling an event of this magnitude off. BTW, there was a hurricane that affected the logistics and threw off the timeline days before the conference kicked off; AND they still made it all happen. Let's appreciate that!     Already excited for MIC2025. Let’s all do our part to spread the information about this MUST-attend event and get over 2,500 attendees next year.   Feel free to add your takeaways in the comments.   #MIC24 #MICAtlanta #Military #Veterans #MilSPouse #Networking #Collaboration #Connection #Conversation #Resources    #BruceTalk

Leveraging Software Engineering, Data, DevOps and AI to serve and train veterans for today’s work force.

Recent AI-driven analysis of veteran representation has uncovered a striking disparity between the portrayed and actual veteran demographics. Current representations in media, public discourse, and veteran-focused initiatives often present a narrow view, predominantly featuring straight white males, officers, and retired military personnel. However, this portrayal significantly misrepresents the diverse reality of our veteran community. Key insights from the data: • 74% of veterans served less than ten years • 82-85% of veterans are enlisted personnel • 85% did not serve in combat arms roles • 38.49% of all military members belong to minority groups (including women, LGBTQIA+, Black, Latinx, and others) These statistics underscore a critical need: to effectively address veteran issues, we must ensure that the full spectrum of veteran experiences is represented in decision-making processes. By amplifying diverse voices that accurately mirror the veteran population—including enlisted personnel, those with shorter service periods, and veterans from various backgrounds—we can develop more comprehensive and inclusive solutions for the challenges faced by all veterans. Embracing this diversity is not just about representation—it's about effectiveness. A more inclusive approach will lead to more equitable resource allocation and support systems that cater to the needs of the entire veteran community, not just the more visible or traditionally represented groups. As we move forward in supporting our veterans, let's commit to reflecting the true diversity of their experiences, ranks, and backgrounds. This approach will not only honor their service more accurately but also significantly enhance our ability to address the complex needs of all who have served, regardless of their length of service, rank, or demographic profile.
