In 2019, it was reported that 10 percent of U.S. adults believed that certain vaccines could cause autism in children. This statistic highlights a persistent concern among a segment of the population regarding the safety and potential side effects of vaccines. This belief has been influenced by misinformation and discredited research, which has contributed to ongoing debates about vaccine safety. Despite substantial scientific evidence demonstrating that vaccines do not cause autism, such misconceptions remain prevalent. #MindShift #Autism #Neurodiversity

This co-occurrence can lead to a range of unique challenges and strengths. For example, someone with both ASD and ADHD might excel in areas requiring intense focus and creativity but may also struggle with organizational tasks or social interactions. The challenge lies in managing the interplay between these conditions, as the strategies that work for one may not be effective for the other. This complexity can make it difficult for individuals to find the right balance and for caregivers or employers to provide adequate support. #MindShift #autism #neurodiversity #asd #adhd

A great visual to illustrate these concepts that most of us struggle to understand. I, for one, see "equity" and "equality" used interchangeably, when the distinction is truly crucial.

This image was so helpful for me the first time I saw it (Tony Ruth’s “Giving Tree of Justice,” adapted from Shel Silverstein illustrations). You see, equity and equality are not the same thing. And, justice aims to dismantle the systems of inequity that bring about inequality in the first place. Inequality shows a scenario where opportunities are unevenly distributed—some can easily access resources, while others are left struggling. Equality depicts an attempt to level the playing field by providing everyone with the same tools. However, it highlights that equal distribution isn’t always enough, as it fails to address individual needs. Equity goes a step further by tailoring resources to each person’s specific challenges, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to succeed. Finally, Justice represents the ultimate goal: reforming the system to eliminate barriers, providing everyone with equal access to opportunities, and enabling true opportunity. How do you define equity and justice? Let me know in the comments below. #Equity #Equality #DEI
