We're less than 2 weeks away from the first Data & Drinks of 2025! Founders, data scientists, and bench scientists will all benefit from the discussion I'm planning on the importance of eliminating data silos in biotech. Dean Lee, Liyang Diao, and Jonathan Weiss will be joining me for this roundtable discussion. I want this to be more of a conversation vs just a typical Q&A. And I want to engage with the audience more, so don't be shy! RSVP here: https://lu.ma/zo4wqigq Shoutout once again to Ralf Felsner and Collaborative Drug Discovery - CDD Vault for helping make this event happen for the 3rd time. We curate the guest list to ensure a high quality audience every time yet still always sell out so RSVP soon! 👉 This event and 500+ more can be found in the Mindvyne web app: www.mindvyne.com

  • A new feature is here!

First new feature for Mindvyne is here! Now, you can add events directly to our database with immediate visibility—no more Google Form submissions. Just drop the event URL, select the country/state, and our AI agent handles the rest. (It takes about 15 seconds to extract all required info.) Plus, you can now find events by country and state, making it even easier to discover what’s happening in your region. We’re making Mindvyne THE space for science professionals to find, share, and attend the best events—without the hassle. Current count: 377 events across the US, Canada, and Europe. More features to come soon: user profiles, posting, and blogging. (Thanks Eric Butcher for being the sole developer in all of this. 💪 ) Check out the web app here: www.mindvyne.com I'm also planning 20+ events this year with Mindvyne. Reach out if you want to get involved or if you want help planning your event.

  • Many more of these to come in 2025!

Some events are just noise. This wasn’t one of them. [I’ve talked about the success of this event before, but just had to share this awesome video to prove it.] During #JPM2025, Lisa Yu (99VC) and I brought together a handpicked group of founders, investors, and operators for a private dinner—no panels, no pitches, just the right high-caliber people in the room, each bringing REAL value to the table. We talked about what’s actually working, what’s overhyped, and where the real opportunities are in biotech and healthtech. The kind of discussions that don’t just stay in the room but lead to real collaborations. A curated space, private sushi chef, great wine, and conversations that actually matter. If you missed this one, maybe you'll get an invite to the next. 😉 Thank you to our host Andrew Boos for the space, and to our sponsors for making this happen: Michael Orlando of ATEL Capital Group Dan Stone & John Moser of Justworks Ginger Cooper of Summit Success Group Margaret Jenkins of Global Pharma Solutions AND to all of our attendees for choosing this dinner over the 100 other events that were going on that night: Genevieve LeMarchal, Dinesh Gauba, Kim Liss, Rithika K., Michael Becich, Lukas-Karim Merhi, Sofia Vaschetto, Michael Florea, Neda Razavi, MBA, Dan Davenport, Vivian Zhang, Sami Yusuf, Stuart Paap, Vincent Tse, Yasmeen Drummond, Brendan Walker, Luca Giani, Avery (Qinghong) Yan, Taku Fukuzawa, Sally (Yuanheng) Wang Liang, Michael Hill, Junaid Mian, Victoria Donovan, Lynn Fischer -- With Mindvyne’s 2025 event schedule locked in (it's a beast), you'll be seeing much more high quality FOMO like this. To avoid missing out, join www.mindvyne.com. And if you're interested in being an event sponsor (from these small dinners to large summits and pitch competitions)... post below or shoot me a message. 👋

How screwed are we without government funding for basic science research and early-stage startups? This is rhetorical. The answer is very screwed. The next 4 years will be bad. Just a few months ago, I felt optimistic about non-dilutive funding. I met multiple early-stage founders securing $2M, $5M, even $10M+ in grants to push their innovations forward. Even at #JPM2025, I was hearing plenty of good news about founders securing grants and continuing to hustle that week to submit more applications before January deadlines and line up additional funding opportunities. But now, with Trump’s recent executive order freezing federal grants, everything has changed for the worse. You’d think sustaining U.S. leadership in biotech and healthcare, a major driver of innovation and economic growth, would be a priority. Research funding not only drives breakthroughs but keeps the U.S. at the forefront of life sciences globally. Yet here we are. It’s early days, and policies could revert, but I’m not optimistic. I don’t expect grant opportunities to return to what they were in 2024 during this admistration. Without this vital funding, many startups won’t survive. Investors will feel the strain as startups have nowhere else to turn. The point of this post is to bring awareness to this major shift and start a conversation. What’s next? How do we support each other through this? Who’s already been affected by this freeze? Is there any silver lining?

  • Our rebrand is here! Buzzed for Biotech is now part of Mindvyne. Mindvyne is a brand new social media platform we just built to better connect the science community. BfB has become Mindvyne Live, the event hosting and managing arm of Mindvyne. Read about how our platform and rebrand came to be in Daniel Dacey’s post below.

V1 of the science events app I’ve been promising is officially live! And there's much more to come. -- When I launched Buzzed for Biotech (BfB) in December 2023, it was a simple idea: create networking events that actually provide value to attendees. I wanted to move beyond the noisy, disconnected gatherings and build something meaningful—events where professionals could make real connections, exchange ideas, and leave inspired. Over the past year, those curated experiences have brought together so many incredible minds, and I couldn’t be prouder of what BfB achieved. But something became clear along the way: networking shouldn’t stop when the event ends. There’s a gap for science professionals—a way to stay connected, share knowledge, and discover opportunities without wading through irrelevant noise (there’s a lot of that on LinkedIn now). That’s where the idea for Mindvyne was born. While I’ve been on the ground hosting events and building our in-person community, Eric Butcher has been quietly creating something remarkable behind the scenes. As my co-founder at dovetail biopartners, and now here at Mindvyne, Eric has been leading the charge in bringing this platform to life. Mindvyne isn’t just a social media platform—it’s a solution to the challenges I’ve experienced firsthand. Here’s what it CURRENTLY is: A web app where you can easily discover science events, promote your own for greater visibility, add others’ events, and find sponsors. And COMING SOON: - User Profiles: Imagine LinkedIn profiles, but sleeker and more lightweight. - Posting: Designed to spark real conversations, with a style inspired by X. - Blogging: Perfect for deep dives and passionate long-form content, inspired by Medium. - Messaging & Connecting: Follow anyone like most apps, but meaningful connections will happen differently—name a referral, leave a personal note, or [fill in the blank] to make every interaction intentional—we're still figuring this one out! So while there will be a robust suite of features all in one place, simplicity remains at its core—focusing on thoughtful content creation, meaningful connections, and tools that truly add value without the clutter. As for Buzzed for Biotech, it’s not going away—it’s evolving. We’re now Mindvyne LIVE, continuing to deliver the high-impact, curated events you’ve come to expect. In addition to hosting our own events, we’re also a full-service event host and manager, ready to help others plan and execute exceptional events tailored to their needs. This is just the beginning. Mindvyne is our way of building something bigger, connecting the dots between in-person events and a smarter digital platform for the scientific community. To everyone who has been part of BfB’s journey so far—thank you. Eric and I hope you enjoy what’s next with Mindvyne! *If you were already following the BfB page, then you’re already following Mindvyne! Both app and events announcements will be made there.*

  • Join us as a sponsor for our first event of the year over in San Francisco during #JPM2025!

    View profile for Daniel Dacey

    Founder - Entrepreneur - Connector | Biotech - Data Science - Music

Excited to share a unique sponsorship opportunity during #JPM2025! This will technically be the first event of the new year for Buzzed for Biotech, and it’s not your typical big conference gathering. While the large events are fun and worth attending, the true value lies in smaller, curated settings where you can genuinely connect with others—learning about their goals and passions without having to shout over a crowd of 500. These intimate conversations set the stage for much more impactful follow-ups after JPM. That’s why Lisa Yu and I are hosting an exclusive dinner for 30 on January 14th in a stunning 55th-floor penthouse in San Francisco. So far, we’ve confirmed 20 exceptional attendees—half VCs and half executives, founders, and prominent leaders in the #biotech, #AI, and #healthtech. This is a rare opportunity to engage directly with decision-makers and explore partnerships that could drive smarter strategies to advance research and improve patient outcomes. To make it happen... 👉 We need a couple more sponsors 👈 If this intrigues you, leave a comment or shoot me a message!
