Earlier this year, MinKwon collaborated with community member Rodrigo Díaz for a new 40 Year Anniversary logo. Rodrigo was a sport throughout the multiple drafts, which including variations of the Hangul, or Korean script, various stylized numbers, and considerations about whether to go with "40th" or to drop the "-th." After producing a successful and supreme version of the 40 Year Anniversary logo, Rodrigo agreed to an interview for MinKwon's story bank. This is the first of many videos for MinKwon's story bank, and we're proud to present our beloved community member and graphic designer, Rodrigo Díaz! Thank you again Rodrigo for the awesome logo! The MinKwon Center for Community Action was established in 1984 to meet the needs and concerns of the Korean American community through our five program areas: Education, Civic Participation, Immigrant Rights, Social Services, and Culture. Since our founding, we have made a profound presence in the Korean American community through various grassroots organizing, education, and advocacy initiatives that address important community issues, including immigration policies at the national, state and city levels, voter rights, and cultural awareness. MinKwon Center places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of our marginalized community members who have less access to resources, including the youth, the elderly, recent immigrants, low-income residents, and limited English proficient residents.

Yesterday, September 3, 2024, MinKwon joined fellow co-sponsors for a press conference, ahead of the 7th Immigrant Sanctuary Church Symposium hosted by the Korean American Sanctuary Church Network on Thursday, September 12, 2024. At the press conference, representatives from the co-sponsoring organizations gathered to open into the organizing theme for this year's Symposium, "Misconceptions and Truths About the Refugee Issue." The 6th Symposium was organized by the question, "Why Do We Need Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) History Education For All Americans?" (https://lnkd.in/djG5ZcN2).

What an incredible experience hosting my first Equal Rights Amendment teach-in! For The New York Immigration Coalition, in collaboration with MinKwon Center for Community Action, I taught a group of community members about Prop 1, the New York State Equal Rights Amendment that will be on the ballot this November! After the presentation in both English and Korean, we asked participants to write down why Prop 1 passing was important to them, including access to abortion, immigrant rights, protections for the LGBTQ+ community and more with this broad and inclusive amendment! #YESonProp1 #NYERsforEqualRights #NYSERA

With election season in full swing, Documented is looking at how immigrant New Yorkers are responding to the months ahead. Immigrant voters make up a large bloc, with about 24.5 million naturalized citizens eligible to vote this year, including 3.5 million newly naturalized Americans. Here’s a look at some of our coverage so far: 🔴 Local Asian community organizations – such as APA Voice and MinKwon Center for Community Action – are working to boost voter turnout, especially among Asian youth who continue to be the least likely to vote across all age groups within the community. Just 55% of Asian voters aged 18 to 24 participated in the 2020 general election in New York state.
