Minnesota Department of Education staff members gathered this week for a day of professional development to learn and continue expanding skills to provide the best support to educators, students, schools and libraries. We started the day with an excellent panel discussion by a group of advocates for students with disabilities who shared about their own experiences in education, advocacy and the problems of ableism in education and in society.

Our Nutrition Program Services staff joined U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service last week in a visit to Fond du Lac Ojibwe School, Cloquet, MN to promote summer food programs, engage with Tribal community partners and celebrate Fond du Lac Ojibwe School as a grant recipient of a child nutrition program grant. The federal child nutrition program awarded Fond du Lac Ojibwe School together with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa a grant to educate school nutrition staff in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan on food sovereignty and Indigenous food procurement and preparation.

This week we announced that 14 Minnesota school districts and charter schools were awarded $9.4 million in Grow Your Own grants over the next five years to assist adults and students in pursuing a career in education, especially those who identify as people of color or American Indian. https://lnkd.in/g6X5wGxv

Our Collaborative Minnesota Partnerships to Advance Student Success (COMPASS) team is hosting COMPASS regional staff from the Minnesota Service Cooperatives across the state this week for a two-day orientation at our offices. Kleber Ortiz, education faculty member at Minneapolis College gave the keynote address Monday.

Our teams have been working hard to bring our systems and applications back online. The majority are now available again for use.

Our teams continue to work on restoring Minnesota Department of Education systems. This work may carry into the weekend.

Many Minnesota Department of Education technology systems are currently unavailable due to the global technology outage. We are working to address this issue and will post as we have updates.

The communities of Stephen and Argyle give a lot to the students of Stephen-Argyle Elementary School, and the students, teachers and staff give right back to their communities as often as possible.
