The Minnesota Judicial Branch is made up of 10 judicial districts with 293 district court judgeships, 19 Court of Appeals judges, and seven Supreme Court justices. The Judicial Branch is governed by the Judicial Council, which is chaired by Natalie E. Hudson, Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court. The Minnesota Judicial Branch is mandated by the Minnesota Constitution to resolve disputes promptly and without delay.

  • The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking applicants to fill two public member positions on the 13-member Minnesota State Board of Continuing Legal Education. The Board is responsible for considering matters such as the review and accreditation of continuing legal education (CLE) courses as well as the review and recommendation for amendment of Board policies, procedures, and rules. The Board also hears appeals by attorneys concerning compliance with CLE requirements.   • The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking 2 judicial and 2 non-judicial members to serve on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Ethics Board. Non-judicial applications should be Qualified Neutrals according to the Rule 114 ADR Roster. The Board was appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court to promote the ethical use of ADR in the court system and to investigate and review complaints. In addition, the Board considers training waiver requests from Neutrals. The Board meets on a monthly basis. The work of the Client Security Board helps to correct wrongs of attorneys who misappropriate client funds through the investigation and review of complaints and payments. Additional projects related to the work of the Board are periodically undertaken as well. Familiarity with the professional responsibility system in Minnesota is desirable but not mandatory.   • Congratulations to the Bemidji High School Mock Trial team for placing 7th at the state Mock Trial tournament! ⚖️   To celebrate this accomplishment, Beltrami District Court judges honored the team with a special ceremony at the Beltrami County Judicial Center.   Judge Annie Claesson-Huseby, Judge Matti Adam, and Judge Jeanine Brand presented certificates to each student and gifted them with gavel pencils. The judges also had special court-themed cookies made by CT Sweets.   “As they commence from high school, we hope that students choose majors and consider professions within the Judicial Branch,” Judge Claesson-Huseby said. “After all, today’s high school students will be the people charged with upholding the pillars of justice for generations to come.”

  • On Friday, students from the Minnesota State University, Mankato Industrial-Organizational Psychology Master’s Program visited the Minnesota Judicial Center! ⚖️ The students met with Sara Kujawski and other members of the branch’s Human Resources team to learn about the Minnesota Judicial Branch. The students also received a tour of the Minnesota Judicial Center and got an inside look at one of the courtrooms.

  • Happy Minnesota Justice Day! ⚖️ Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Natalie Hudson welcomed Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison to the festivities in the historic State Capitol Courtroom. Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle joined Supreme Court Justices, Court of Appeals judges, district court judges, and other members of the Judicial Branch for tours of courtroom areas not generally seen by the public and lots of good conversation. The purpose of the annual event is to highlight the importance of access to justice and to answer any questions lawmakers and others may have about the Judicial Branch.
