The future must be powered by 100% clean energy. Our mission is to reduce harm from methane emissions until we get there
About us
MiQ is an independent, not-for-profit partnership between Rocky Mountain Institute and SYSTEMIQ aiming to bring about a rapid reduction in methane emissions in the oil and gas sector. We aim to abate almost 6 billion tonnes of CO2e in methane emissions by 2030. Definitely the largest and lowest hanging fruit when it comes to fighting climate change. We have a designed a certification system which, adopted at scale, will create a differentiated market for natural gas and, therefore, different price levels. This system will incentivize the sector to invest in technology to make the significant methane reductions necessary to support the achievement of global climate targets.

If students were allowed to mark their own homework no one would trust the results. The same logic needs to apply to oil and gas producers’ claims on methane emissions. MiQ Certification is independent and third-party verified, enabling producers to credibly demonstrate emissions reductions. #MiQ #Methane
