Annual Report 2023: Mama Tosca's owner Bruno Garcia shares how Mission Bank's SBA division helped make his dream a reality. Bruno Garcia began working in the restaurant industry when he was 14 years old. He always knew he wanted to own and run a restaurant, but it wasn’t until 2017 that he could see how his dream could become a reality. “My first night working at Mama Tosca’s I was at the service stand, and I looked around the restaurant and said, one day this place is going to be mine.” A family business opened in 1982, Mama Tosca’s is a neighborhood favorite and known to be one of Bakersfield’s best fine dining options. Founded and managed by brothers, Garcia became an integral part of the operation when one of the men fell ill. Garcia got his chance to buy the restaurant in 2022 but the sale stalled for a year as they searched for a loan and waited on banks for answers. Finally in early 2023 he was referred to Mission Bank where he met SBA Division Manager Craig Howells, and Relationship Manager Colton Foster. By September the loan was funded, and Garcia officially took over. “I started in the restaurant industry 25 years ago. This year Mission Bank is celebrating its 25th anniversary. 25 years is a long time and it’s meaningful for me to be in business with someone who has that much experience. It’s good for both of us.”

Congratulations to Glenda Garcia on celebrating 10 years at Mission Bank. Glenda joined us as we launched our Business Banker model and has been a leader among her peers. She is now the Business Banker Lead at the Riverwalk Business Banking Center in Bakersfield. Thank you for your hard work. We can't wait to see what the next 10 years brings!
