MDOT executives gathered this morning to finalize documents refinancing the department’s bond debt, a move expected to result in a cash-flow savings of $40 million and allow the debt to be paid off 8 years ahead of schedule. This is part of MDOT’s ongoing commitment to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars by managing the agency with fiscal responsibility and a common-sense approach. The Transportation Commission approved the refinancing plan at their August meeting. #MShwys

Guess what? It’s #WorkerWednesday time! Kimberly Meek is a phenomenal Administrative Assistant at MDOT's northern District 2 headquarters in Batesville. She not only manages this large office's front desk, answering questions and appropriately directing incoming calls, but also deftly processes employee timesheets, which helps us keep an accurate account of MDOT work, and addresses all-important maintenance quotes! 😵 What's more, despite all the tasks she juggles each day, she always does everything with a smile. We can't say enough about your outstanding positive influence and dedication, Kimberly!

Due to new federal legislation, MDOT has now created a Special Interstate Agricultural Vehicle Permit that allows interstate travel in Mississippi for commercial vehicles hauling agricultural products and unprocessed forestry products. Available to eligible drivers, the new permit is an annual blanket permit that also entitles a vehicle to transport certain agricultural products up to 88,000 pounds. U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith included the new provision in the FY2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (T-HUD) Appropriations Bill (H.R. 4366 - https://bit.ly/4dsa4dX), which was signed into law by President Biden in March. See the work that's been happening so far in these photos! The scope of the whole project includes the removal and replacement of bridge end pavements and end walls, replacement of bridge bearings, installation of joint seals, drainage improvements, slope reinforcements, and rip rap placement. The closure of the exit ramp will remain in place until approximately October 11, with the remaining project work expected to wrap up next summer.
