"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -Mandela What an empowering day learning from Indiana changemakers on how they are reforming Indiana Education for Hoosiers and having roundtable discussions with Mitch Daniels Leadership Foundation fellows on early and higher education. It was wonderful learning from leaders, including Govenor Daniels, on education policy. Thank you Dr. Tony Bennett, Brian McGrath, Betsy Wiley, Shamika Anderson,MBA,CSSBB, Monica Evans, George Gemelas, and Liane Hart for sharing wisdom with my class. Thank you Pat Lynch for leading a lively discussion at the Liberty Fund and Emilio Pacheco for the tour. A big shoutout to Lauren (Petersen) James and Kelsey Cook for intentionally planning another great meeting!

On Tuesday, October 15, MDLF Class VII Fellows gathered for their second Liberty Fund session, focusing on "The State of Education in Indiana." The group engaged in two dynamic discussions led by Pat Lynch: "The Purpose of Early Education and the Role of Government, Society, and Local Communities" and "The Past, Present, and Future of Higher Education." We also had the privilege of hearing from MDLF alumni Shamika Anderson,MBA,CSSBB, Monica Evans, George Gemelas, and Liane Hart, who shared their experiences with creating and implementing their Capstone projects within their communities. Statewide leaders Dr. Tony Bennett, Brian McGrath, and Betsy Wiley led an insightful conversation about the evolution of school choice in Indiana. Thank you to Emilio Pacheco for the wonderful tour of the beautiful facility. As an added bonus, we enjoyed extra time between sessions with Mitch Daniels! Fellows from all seven classes came together to connect and celebrate leadership. It was a memorable experience at the Governor's Residence where we were all reminded of the power of fellowship, collaboration, impact and perseverance. Thank you, Governor Eric Holcomb, for your warm hospitality. I had the privilege of spending Tuesday night at the Governor’s Residence in Indianapolis, where I engaged in an insightful discussion about Indiana’s future alongside Governors Daniels & Holcomb. As a kid from Vermillion County, I never imagined I would be invited to the Governor’s home. It was an unforgettable evening, and I feel truly honored to have participated. A big thank you to Kelsey Cook, Lauren (Petersen) James, and everyone at the Mitch Daniels Leadership Foundation and beyond for making this evening possible.

Feeling incredibly grateful and blessed for the opportunities through being a Mitch Daniels Leadership Foundation Fellow. I was able to spend Tuesday night at the Governor’s Residence in Indianapolis, surrounded by two Indiana governors for a great discussion about the future of Indiana and aiming higher. It was humbling, inspiring, and an experience full of imposter syndrome. 🙂 A kid like me growing up in New Albany from very humble beginnings couldn’t ever fathom he would one day be sitting in the living room of the Indiana Governor. #Leadership #Gratitude #NewBeginnings #ShapingTheFuture
