    MiTek recently bid farewell to our 2024 summer interns. During the 12-week program, our interns worked at our facilities across the U.S., performing important work in critical areas from Software and Mechanical Engineering to Customer Experience and Data Science. MiTek's summer internship program offers students valuable career experience through projects tailored to meet strategic business needs while gaining leadership development skills, building connections in their field, and participating in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion experiences.     A MiTek Design Engagement Consultant recently met with a major developer about how our Optimized Design Support might be helpful. During the conversation, a discussion about doing something different than the developer had been doing for many years came up. The different idea? Utilizing Top Chord Posi-Joists to replace TJI saves their typical large Type III projects well over $500k in material costs and labor by removing rim boards and hangers at exterior wall locations. Another benefit was found by increasing the on-center spacing of the joists, thus eliminating the number of joists required—thanks to the strength found in MiTek Posi-Joists. The developer is now utilizing Posi-Joist on a much larger upcoming job in the Bay Area of California, saving them $1.2M in heavy fire-treated timber materials.     Our Design Engagement Team has been introducing our Optimized Design Service (ODS) to architects, engineers, and builders with spectacular results. A good example can be found in this floor framing comparison for an area of a large multi-family project. This section is about 750 sq ft and was originally designed with 9.5” I-Joists. When our ODS team looked the design over they were able to consider our 9.25” Posi-Strut application as an alternate in both bottom chord and top chord configurations. In addition to reducing joist count, minimizing wood rim and blocking—and opening up space with an open web floor truss to let MEP pass through, per square foot floor framing costs are lowered by just over 20%!     Building and construction are responsible for 37% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the world. MiTek’s off-site building methods, powered by automation and software, position us to help the industry reduce these emissions. In 2023, we created a new feature for our MiTek Pamir design software to output all required data to help customers calculate the CO2 emissions for each project design. This update enables our customers to better understand and quantify their own sustainability efforts.
