About us
Mitre & Mondays is a design studio with a mission to connect people to the material world around them. Providing tools for living across a variety of scales, ranging from furniture, creative, product to interior design & spatial. Whatever we create, the drive is to be honest in our approach – working closely with clients, suppliers and collaborators to present an alternative to business as usual. We are open to proposals from clients who share our vision of working with the planet instead of against it.

Heavy Light is a great project for describing how we like to work. A floor light made using natural elements found in the city, including a free-standing reclaimed London cobblestone and timber from a London Plane tree felled just outside of Euston station. This was made as part of Atelier100, a design programme founded by H&M and IKEA. It displays how a bioregional design process can work in a city. Its nice to think of what this light would look like had it been made in New York or Seoul, with timber and stone from each locality.

Thanks to POoR Collective for including us in POWERSHIIFT at this years London Design Festival. We presented a pair of trestle legs built by students at a series of afterschool clubs we provided for STORE STORE Projects earlier this year.
"For the second year in a row, POOR Collective's Powershift exhibition provided a platform for designers who would otherwise struggle to showcase their work during the annual design week." POoR Collective POWERSHIIFT exhibition for London Design Festival has been featured on Dezeen! "The exhibition included work by a number of young creatives who have a background in one discipline but have recently chosen to explore an alternative field." We worked closely with the amazing team Studioshaw to produce this massive 1100m2 Marilyn Monroe exhibition in the Arches of London Bridge. An assembly of Honext, anodised aluminium, greencast acrylic, pine timber, valchromat and aluminium chain curtain make up the display structures.
* No Cut Boards * 'Marilyn, The Exhibition' opened last week at The Arches London Bridge, marking our first major exhibition design. London is host to a vast number of temporary events, performances and exhibitions every year. This constant churn results in a huge amount of waste which often ends up in landfill. Building on our practices RE:LOW philosophy, we collaborated with the exhibition producers Mitre & Mondays to develop material proposals and fixing methods that would reduce the environmental impact of the project. The wall panels have an exposed softwood frame inspired by photographs of 1950's Hollywood film sets and are clad using pinned (not glued) HONEXT®, a carbon negative board made from 100% waste. 🚫✂ The sizes of all new walls are set out to standard 2440mm x 1220mm sheet sizes. This massively reduces waste, speeds up fabrication and greatly increases the chances of the boards being reused. The show is open until February 2025. Get in touch if you would like a visit in the run up to Christmas. #relow #studioshaw

We were invited by Aram and USM Modular Furniture to design an Adaptation using their system. We designed folding stools using their components, and a textile sling. Working both from our office and workshop and navigating the narrow streets and parks typical of London, we wanted to design folding stools for sharing meals together comfortably in unexpected places. Its well worth a visit if you'r central. Loads of talent on show at the till the 14th of December.

Great to be part of forest to furniture with Waugh Thistleton Architects. We presented our process of Actions of Assembly. Seeing everything as an assembly - a group of materials held together at a certain point in time- helps us to understand what materials and fixing methods are suitable for our projects.
Last Wednesday, we hosted our first internal Ethos Day! This day was an opportunity to reflect on our understanding of and approach towards sustainability, both personally and as a practice. As a practice, we are committed to expanding on and improving our expertise as sustainable designers. It is through a process of constant reappraisal, critique, evaluation, learning and growth that we drive forward the green transition of the construction industry. 🌲 We were joined by four talented speakers who shared insights into their different approaches towards sustainable design and forestry, across a spectrum of scales and impacts. Thank you for the thought-provoking and inspiring conversation. Until next year! A huge thank you to Mark Schubert, Jez Ralph, Freya Bolton and Finn Thomson for joining as speakers. Thank you to Claudia Walton, Thor Winkler and Toby Pullen from the WTA team for organising such a great day. #SustainableForestry #ConstructionRevolution #MassTimber
