The reality of having to work from home in isolation for multiple years for millions of workers may have caused an as-yet underdiscussed after effect: essential mannerisms, formalities, and social rituals seem to have atrophied. My business and life partner Alxzyndria explores this and the ways we can bring mindfulness back to everyday interactions and business with her usual reverence for life and deep respect for all in her latest post to our blog. 🎥 🗓 If you've found yourself in a lot of Zoom meetings and have been feeling less than enthusiastic about it, there could be a reason. This article illuminates some of the impacts of prolonged video conferencing exposure and what to do about them. Here they are in summary 🙂 Problem 1: Close-up eye contact on a screen is intense and unnatural. Solution: Reduce the app's window size and/or use an external keyboard to make some space. Problem 2: Seeing yourself during conversation is not normal Solution: Hide your video from yourself in Zoom's settings Problem 3: Video calls can cause undue immobility Solution: You can turn off your video or have the camera further away to give yourself the room to move around. Problem 4: Video chats increase cognitive load compared to in-person chats Solution: Take a break by turning off your camera, allowing you to take a pause from performative behaviors. I hope you may have found some of these helpful! #zoomfatigue #mindfulness #meetingtips #selfcare #wellness #mndfully https://lnkd.in/gpKuDiDZ

“More than half of American employers offer some form of mindfulness training to their workers.” We know it’s important. But which practices are most impactful? When should we practice them? And who benefits most? This #hbr article offers the following key takeaways: 1. For those in roles where authentic social interaction are paramount, mindfulness can reduce the stress felt in emotionally charged interactions and lead to better outcomes. 2. Emphasizing loving-kindness practices rather than breath work can boost accountability. Breath-based practices can reduce the level of responsibility we feel towards a problem. 3. Mindfulness practices can provide excellent results if done at important preparatory moments, such as right before a stressful meeting or as the phone is ringing prior to picking up.
