MOCA #Jacksonville is pleased to continue its partnership with Art with a Heart in Healthcare and present the exhibition "The Power Within" Sep 15, 2024 – Jan 12, 2025. At Wolfson Children's Hospital, the Artists-in-Residence from Art with a Heart in Healthcare presented a thought-provoking question to pediatric patients, "What powers lie within you?" This question prompted the young patients to reflect on the qualities, strengths, and abilities that shape who they are. Inspired by this introspection, the children creatively depicted their unique characteristics by designing a superhero version of themselves. Research suggests that recognizing and leveraging inner strengths, much like superpowers, can foster personal development and confidence. As a result, this project played a role in improving the patients' hospital stay, healing process, and overall well-being. 2024 ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE Dylan Bauer, Bob Drost, Heidi Drost, Kianna Godoy, Evan Guttormson, Jaycee Guttormson, Amy Irizarry, Brooke McKinney, Lisa Miyares, Jill Olmo, Matt Richards, Abigail Santos, and Micaela Yates Sponsored by the Florida Blue Foundation. This exhibition is organized by Art with a Heart in Healthcare in collaboration with MOCA Jacksonville. Support for this exhibition was made in part by the City of Jacksonville, the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, and the University of North Florida.

Join us as we celebrate MOCA's newest exhibitions and continue our 100th anniversary festivities on Sep. 5 at 8 p.m.! Enjoy an evening of art and community featuring live music, the MOCA Bar, and three incredible new exhibitions.  Become a MOCA Member to receive early access to the Opening Celebration, plus other great perks such as complimentary garage parking, free admission, and discounts on events, programs, and camp.  New Exhibitions: "Fill My Heart With Hope: Works From The Gordon W. Bailey Collection" is an inclusive exhibition featuring exceptional artworks from the collection of the noted Los Angeles-based scholar, advocate, and collector. Few of the 56 artists received formal training, but most overcame significant obstacles imposed because of their gender, race, disability, religion or socio-economic status.  "Emil Alzamora: Starship Abundance" is a multidisciplinary exhibition, intended “as a nod to the seemingly unending richness that abounds on planet Earth.” Alzamora is best known for his sculpture, where he employs a wide range of materials and techniques to explore the human form, both physically and psychologically. "A Century of Contemporary" traces the history of our institution, which first began as a series of exhibitions by artists of the day, used as a fundraising tool to support public school education; then as a guild; and later as an art museum and educational leader.  Images: Sam Doyle, Adlade, ca. 1982-85, house paint on metal, 66 x 33 1/2 in., Gordon W.
