One of our Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine third-year medical students, Daniel Jaremczuk, recently presented a keynote speech at Syracuse City Hall about his experience volunteering as a medic in Eastern Ukraine. While in Ukraine, Daniel responded to civilian casualties with the Kharkiv Ambulance Corps and assisted providers at the Kharkiv Urban Center for Neuropathology and Neurosurgery. Daniel spoke alongside Congressman Brandon Williams, NYS Senator John Mannion, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, and many other community leaders as they discussed the challenges and potential solutions to providing aid to Ukraine. It was an honor for Daniel to be invited by Mayor Walsh and we are very proud of him!

Last month, there was a surprise "clap out" celebration at the Sister Rose Vincent Family Medicine Center to honor Dr. Francis Chabot who retired from his role as Lead Preceptor of our Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Chabot dedicated more than 40 years to teaching and mentoring our residents and medical students, serving as an invaluable asset to our community, MVHS and medical education. During the celebration, participants were asked to create signs which contained words describing Dr. Chabot. Some of the signs read, "Inspiring," "Compassionate," "Humble," and "Hero," and we couldn't agree more!

The Pillow Ladies started at St. Elizabeth as a group of volunteers making pillows to help recovering surgical patients by providing a comfortable method for them to have chest support when they move or cough. The pillows are now used with a variety of patients and are provided at no cost.
