Montana Department of Commerce Director Paul Green and our Senior Officer for International Relations/Asia Trade Manager, Katie Willcockson, recently returned from Taiwan and Japan, where they worked to advance education and trade opportunities with both nations. They met with academic, industry and government officials to strengthen and advance Montana’s longstanding relationships with the Taiwanese and Japanese people. Commerce also offered networking opportunities to nine Montana businesses traveling with them, which included attendance at BioJapan, the world’s longest-running biotechnology exposition. They were joined by Mako Sakaguchi, Commerce’s Japan-based representative. Director Green remarked that interactions during the trade mission solidified his belief that good business relationships start with a foundation of friendship. “Relationships don’t happen overnight,” Director Green stated. “They are earned over time, but they are so much more powerful than just transactions. Our emphasis on relationships is what makes Montana different.” Read more about this trade mission, and other Commerce news, in the first issue of "Commerce Quarterly": https://lnkd.in/gr_PTm7N. #MTbiz #internationaltrade #biojapan2024 #biotech #commercequarterly

This week, we’re launching a survey of Montana renters to learn more about the amount of assistance Montanans need to afford housing. The survey will be used to request an update to fair market rents for the state of Montana from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, based on a more accurate reflection of current local market conditions. Specifically, we’ll use the survey results to seek more appropriate rental subsidies for lower-income households, particularly persons experiencing a disability and elderly households on fixed incomes. The survey results could potentially adjust the maximum rent amount that can be paid to landlords on behalf of households served in federal rental assistance programs, based on the latest housing market data in Montana. Some Montana renters will receive a letter in the mail soon with survey instructions and a code to get started. The online survey takes an average of 10 minutes or less to complete. Responses are voluntary and confidential. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/gZpSEYnw. #mthousing #affordablehousing

Many thanks to Governor Greg Gianforte and community leaders for your support of the North Plains Connector Interregional Innovation project. This summer, Governor Gianforte and the Montana Department of Commerce announced the U.S. Department of Energy awarded the State of Montana up to $700 million to enhance power grid reliability in Montana and North Dakota. The funds, made available by the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships Program, are aimed at ensuring communities across Montana have access to affordable, reliable energy. #NorthernPlainsConnectorProject #MTbiz #infrastructure #economicdevelopment
