We are thrilled to share with listeners episode five of the Montclair Art Museum's new podcast, "Maybe, Actually, Museums are for me.,” featuring Eric-Paul Riege (Diné), the incredible and currently exhibiting, experimental fiber and performance artist. Riege, who performed at the Museum during the opening of “Interwoven Power: Native Knowledge / Native Art,” in September, sat down to chat just moments after completing his second of two activation dances with his newly installed work titled "jaatłoh4Ye’iitsoh [17–18] + [][][][]". Riege spoke about what it means to activate his hanging soft sculptures, the stigma often associated with performative art pieces, and the philosophy behind his works that he describes as “totems of memories”. Riege creates his art as embodied and living, an extension of Diné cultural knowledge and constantly evolving weaving practice. This unique pair of "earrings” has taken new shape and meaning over time, upholding both Riege’s artistic vision and the ethos of “Interwoven Power,” which emphasizes collaboration and change. You can stream this new episode of "Maybe, Actually, Museums are for me.,” and all previous podcast episodes now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube! https://lnkd.in/e_4MxAvQ #EricPaulRiege #MAM #InterwovenPower #NativeKnowledge #NativeArt #MontclairArtMuseum
