Many of our dedicated Day Labor members have been with us for years, and we see them at our Monument site every morning— they’ve truly become part of our community. Recently, we've launched an outreach campaign to share more information bout our Day Labor Center in various neighborhoods in the county. We’re proud of the outreach they’re doing to secure day work, but we know there’s so much more potential out there! When they struggle to find work, we feel that struggle too. That’s why we’re eager to cast a wider net, forging new employer partnerships and seeking day work or training opportunities that can help our members thrive. If you’re interested in volunteering, have ideas for partnerships, or need a trusted worker for a project, we’d love to hear from you! Call us at 925-682-8248 x2300, email elba@monumentimpact.org to learn more, and share this post!

🎉 We’re excited to share that we’ve received $5,000 in unrestricted support from The James Irvine Foundation! Unrestricted funds are vital for nonprofits, giving us the flexibility to allocate resources where they’re needed most. Thank you for your generous support and for empowering us to respond quickly to our staff and community’s needs!

From community residents to local leaders - we made our voices and concerns heard yesterday. Judith Ortiz, MI Executive Director, calls on the Board of Supervisors to support a county wide GI program, emphasizing the need to focus on community support rather than questioning community members as to why they need public benefits and support. GI pilots are innovative and is a step towards breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

Rosalba Martin, one of our ELEVATE Concord program participants, showed her support at the October 22 Board of Supervisors meeting. As a single mom, she expressed gratitude for the guaranteed income pilots. ELEVATE Concord helped her support her son’s graduation from high school, and she advocates for countywide pilots to assist more families. This was Rosalba’s first time 👏 attending a Board of Supervisors meeting, and we know it can be nerve-wracking to speak up in such a new setting. We’re proud to see her engage civically and advocate for her family and for others! Stay tuned for the final decision on fund allocations.

🌟 At the October 22 Board of Supervisors Meeting, community partners and allies presented a workshop on guaranteed income, covering intended populations, expected outcomes, and design parameters. Our goal was to request the allocation of $5.75 million from Measure X funds and $1 million from AB 109 to support guaranteed income pilots in Contra Costa. A huge thank you to all the community members, partners, and organizational leaders who presented, shared public comments, and supported this collective effort—it's been a challenging journey that continues. Guaranteed income provides a vital safety net for families, helping them manage unplanned emergencies, moments of crisis, and destabilizing transitions. We hope the Board of Supervisors invests in our most vulnerable residents and funds additional guaranteed income pilot programs in our county. Stay tuned for the final decision on fund allocations!
