If you believe in making genuine connections with people you might never have met through meaningful conversations — you're in the right place. +More Perfect Union (+MPU) is a nonprofit whose mission is to build meaningful connections and close divides throughout the country. We create community engagement through our Brickyards based on our core values of Service, Mercy, Hope, Humility, Virtue, and Courage. Veteran-led, we train local service-minded leaders to build a foundation on leadership development, service, and civic education. We can accomplish more united than divided, and we need to meet our neighbors, serve and break bread together, and talk through the hard discussions to reach common ground for each other, our community, and our country. Join the movement to be a part of our future events and how we're growing at the link here: https://lnkd.in/eyVNMaC5 👈

🦅 At +MPU, one of the core pillars of our mission statement is strengthening community through social connection. Chicago Brickyard Leaders Sidney Covington, LMSW and Dan Biga teamed up to host an after-work "Chicago Connect" event centering on the question, "What is your hope and vision for America?" Dan facilitated the 25-minute discussion over complimentary refreshments and said a few familiar themes came from it. Some of these themes spoke on the importance of starting small, having the courage to share your point of view, and reconciling with the idea that previous generations of Americans have wrestled with the same question and that we're creating history by coming together. The Brickyard was joined by a retired Navy SEAL and entrepreneur, a financial analyst with Morningstar, and a couple of non-profit professionals. We are deeply grateful for their participation and the valuable insights they shared. ☕ Thank you for convening at a local coffee shop to have these priceless conversations even after a long work day! #BrickbyBrick #MPUBrickyard #Community #Connections #MPUChicago #ChicagoBrickyard #DisagreeBetter

Sometimes, you carry the weight of history on your shoulders without realizing it. It was Labor Day weekend, but labor was the furthest thing from my mind. Instead, I found myself standing next to a man who does carry history—carrying the invisible weight of generations past, of wars fought and memories etched in time. SGM Richard Rice, the @HomeDepotFoundation Veteran of the Game. But that title, those words, they don't begin to capture the man. In Vietnam, they called him Green Beret, one of the first. Later, in the cold mountains of Afghanistan, he was the shadow that helped push back the Russian tide. In Iran, 1980, he was hope personified for hostages praying for rescue. To the British SAS, he was the American who came to learn but taught them a thing or two as well. And Delta Force? Well, let's just say he helped write that particular story from the first page. You see a man, and you think you know him. But you don't know the weight he carries, the memories that flicker behind his eyes like old film reels, grainy and worn but never fading. I watched as 80,000 voices rose in a collective roar, not for a touchdown , but for a man who had carried so much for so long. It was a sound decades in the making, a belated welcome home that echoed across time, trying to drown out the silence that had greeted him and his brothers so many years ago. In that moment, standing there, I swear I could feel the earth shift just a little, as if the weight of all those unspoken thank-yous was finally being lifted. And I realized, that's what we do. We carry. We carry the memories, the thanks, the regrets. We carry the weight of those who came before us, hoping that somehow, someway, we can make that load a little lighter for those who will come after. That's what Labor Day is really about, isn't it? Not just a day off, but a recognition of the weight we all carry, together. And sometimes, if we're lucky, we get to put that weight down, just for a moment, and remember why we picked it up in the first place. Honored to call Richard a close friend and to have him as a mentor and advisor to +More Perfect Union. #AlwaysBesideYou

📚 Back-to-school season is here, and you can support your local educators by helping where they need it the most. The Silicon Valley Brickyard volunteered at RAFT - Resource Area For Teaching, described by Sandy, a director for the organization, as a "Costco for educators." Brickyard Captain Douglas S. and members of all ages used this as an opportunity to engage in civic conversations while assembling and performing quality control on these STEAM Project Kits or sorting and barcoding donated items for further use. "[There were] civic conversations that highlighted what it means to act in your community and different ways we can show care for the community as disparate groups," Doug said. "A success was recognition of the importance of getting involved." 📎 RAFT (Resource Area for Teaching) is a beacon of support for educators. They supply recycled and low-cost STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) learning materials to teachers, classrooms, afterschool programs, camps, churches, assisted living areas (such as for the elderly), and more. Their work is invaluable, sustainably benefiting over 8,000 educators and 150,000 students in the Bay Area and nationwide with their online store. 👩🏫 Thank you to everyone at RAFT for allowing us to serve you! The mountain of items sorted through daily builds the backbone for the future of our students. #BrickbyBrick #MPUBrickyard #Community #Connections #MPUSiliconValley #SiliconValleyBrickyard #DisagreeBetter #Teachers

💭 At +MPU, we acknowledge that there isn't just one "correct" way of thinking. We ask that you think about a valuable conversation topic on "The Silos We Live In" that our DMV Brickyard hosted: In your current groups, be it with fellow hobbyists, family, friends, or religious-affiliated connections, do you recognize a familiar pattern in the physical and digital spaces you’re a part of? 🏡 Over dinner (on us), our +MPU members from Virginia, DC, and Maryland conversed about how the lack of opportunities to meaningfully engage with people unlike us leads to increased "otherness," polarization, and distrust. By sharing their personal experiences, they begin to challenge and take the lead on steps to expanding their circles. "The questions spurred good dialogue in two small groups, and everyone stayed later than scheduled and left energized by the engagement," DMV Brickyard Leader Ben B. said. Ben was happy to add that first-time +MPU attendees stood behind after the event to exchange contact information. What better way to break out of one's silo than to start here? "This showed that they made some genuine connections," he said. #BrickbyBrick #MPUBrickyard #Community #Connections #MPUDMV #DMVBrickyard #DisagreeBetter #pluralism
