For 40 years, Mountain Lake PBS has been the public media station for the Adirondacks, Champlain Valley, Montreal and everywhere in between. Located in Plattsburgh, NY, Mountain Lake PBS serves a vast audience in New York, Vermont, Quebec and Ontario with acclaimed PBS series such as Antiques Roadshow, Nova and Masterpiece, local productions including Mountain Lake Journal, and highly respected local documentaries like the Emmy Award-winning ARTS IN EXILE: Tibetan Treasures in Small Town America and ON HOME GROUND: Life after Service. Mountain Lake PBS provides unique services and events to families and educators throughout the region, focused on early childhood literacy and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education, and partners with local organizations to strengthen educational opportunities and access in our region.

    A growing number of voters are now backing Proposition 1 that’s on the backside of the ballot in New York this year. Prop 1, also known as the Equal Rights Amendment, would add protection for several new groups under the state constitution. Right now, the constitution only prohibits discrimination based on race, color, creed and religion.

    Congresswoman Elise Stefanik spoke with our colleagues from WCAX this past week, and they were kind enough to let us share some of that interview. Reporter Alek LaShomb asked the Congresswoman why voters in the 21st District should send her back to Washington for another term, and about some of the major issues in this year’s election, including border security and immigration and the influx of migrants crossing the Northern Border in the past year.

    Before her career in national politics, Kamala Harris grew up just across the border in the Westmount neighborhood of Montreal. Harris attended Westmount High School, from 1978 until she graduated in 1981. Current Westmount High freshman, Ione Coombs, learned of the school’s storied alum after seeing artwork featuring Harris within the building’s halls. An inspiration for her and others, like Aminata Diallo, who says she believes the school helped shaped who Harris is today.

    The 23rd Lake Placid Film Festival will screen twenty-one feature films this November, and a variety of short subjects. Causing a lot of “buzz” this year, personal appearances by U.S. Hockey Gold Medalist Buzz Schneider, who scored the first goal against the Russian team in the 1980 Olympics. He’s in town to celebrate the 20th anniversary showings of the film Miracle, the story of the famed “Miracle on Ice.”

    A rally and march were held in downtown Plattsburgh to encourage voters, especially women, to show up to the polls this Election Day. Hundreds turned out for the rally in Trinity Park in Downtown Plattsburgh with many showing their support for Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, and women’s rights.

    North Country Honor Flight receives its largest donation ever, 100-thousand dollars, to pay for flights to take veterans to visit the memorials built in their honor in Washington, from the NYS Assembly and North Country Assemblyman Billy Jones.
