Educational Linguist: Nurturing AI-Enhanced Evolution in Higher Ed

🤔 Is technology really making our writing more efficient? I've been diving deep into this question, and the answer might surprise you. In our latest Moxie blog post and meetup, we explored efficiency myths through the lens of "production bursts" (p-bursts), which is how linguists measure writers' ability to maintain continuity. Research shows longer bursts increase writing quality. So, if we are disrupting those production bursts with technological tools (think about those little squiggly underlines in Grammarly or MS Word) that flag our errors immediately, then we are decreasing our efficiency and likely the quality of our writing (because there's more to good writing than accuracy!). If you're curious, I've unpacked these ideas and more in two forms this week, offering practical strategies to enhance your writing workflow - with or without tech. 🔗 Read the blog post: https://lnkd.in/dYitGsfg 📺 Watch the recording: https://lnkd.in/dgkwQ8qz #AcademicWriting #AIinEducation #ResearchProductivity #MoxieMeetup

𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐬 is a type of #GenAI bias that can be difficult to identify. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐬? Simplification bias refers to the tendency of language models or AI systems to oversimplify complex information when summarizing or paraphrasing text. Notice how GPT-4 simplified a sentence about UK grocery inflation - can you spot the subtle changes? 🔗 Link to source in comments. #AI #AIBias #LargeLanguageModels #criticalthinking #AIinEducation
