🌍 Protecting Lions, Preserving Balance: A Collaborative Effort in Niassa 🌍 In the heart of Niassa Special Reserve, a recent operation to replace the collar of a lioness is more than just a technical task—it’s a vital step in creating a harmonious landscape where both wildlife and local communities can thrive. 🦁 Working in partnership with ANAC and the Niassa Carnivore Project, this effort highlights how targeted actions like collaring and monitoring are essential for understanding lion behavior and ensuring their safety, along with that of the surrounding communities. By tracking these magnificent predators, we gain insights that help us mitigate human-wildlife conflict and support coexistence—a key ingredient for resilient and sustainable communities. This is what it means to find a common language between conservation and sustainable development. Collaborations like these, backed by the Lion Recovery Fund, show how conservation can work hand in hand with economic stability, offering a future where nature and people flourish together. 🌿 Proud to support initiatives that blend strategic thinking, community involvement, and cutting-edge technology to protect Mozambique’s rich biodiversity and build a future of coexistence and growth. #WildlifeConservation #CommunityResilience #ConservationStrategy #HumanWildlifeConflict #PartnershipsForTheGoals #LifeOnLand #Leadership #Mozambique #Africa

🐃On 15 August, a first capture of 48 buffaloes was conducted by the Endeavour Wildlife Management Service’s team. 🤝The assembly of the capture boma required teamwork from the early hours of the morning throughout the day. 🚁The reconnaissance operation by helicopter from the nearest herd began in the early afternoon hours to allow the first buffalo to be loaded during the cooler hours. 🐃The animals once on the trucks were tranquilised and placed in several compartments; one adult male was fitted with a GPS collar for future monitoring thanks to the work of the Mozambique Mozambique Wildlife Alliance vet. 🌅Shortly after sunset, the first convoy set off immediately towards GNAP to avoid unduly prolonging the buffaloes’ time in the vehicles. 🐃On the morning of the 17th, the first group was released into boma in the heart of the national park . Subsequent captures and translocation will take place over the next few days until the designated number is reached. 🤝The preparation of the road and bridge to the boma area and accessibility to the capture area saw the combined efforts of several actors under the coordination of Fondation François Sommer-IGF Thomas Thomas Prin Alessandro Fusari including the Warden and rangers of Reserva nacional de marromeu, the GNAP’S Law Enforcement Department, institutions and local communities supported by ANAC BIOFUND _ and #EuropeanUnion Ph. #ampolaaudiovisual Anac Conservação Parque Nacional do Gilé/ Gilé National Ph. #ampolaaudiovisual

MWA recently conducted a vital operation at Karingani Game Reserve, dehorning four white rhinos—three males and one female. This preventative measure aims to reduce their appeal to poachers and enhance their protection. Rhino horns are highly valued in illegal wildlife markets for their purported medicinal properties and as status symbols. By removing the horns, we decrease their allure to poachers, thus reducing the risk of these animals being targeted for their valuable horns.
