This week, PeaceParks.TV unveils an ingenious solution to protect both communities and wildlife around Mozambique’s Maputo National Park. Elephants have been breaking down fences to access crops, inadvertently endangering livelihoods and sometimes lives. Peace Parks Foundation’s Brian Neubert and the team are stepping in with tentacle fences. These electrified barriers, extending outward to form a wobbling fringe, outsmart the crafty elephants, resulting in a 90% decrease in breakouts. This innovative approach not only ensures safety but also generates local income as community members are employed to install and maintain the fences. Thanks to collaborative efforts between the Mozambique Government, Peace Parks Foundation, partners and donors, this project highlights the power of conservation and community initiatives working hand-in-hand. This approach is helping to ensure peaceful coexistence between people and #NatureWithoutBorders, and balance the protection of lives, livelihoods, and wildlife. Keep watching PeaceParks.TV for more updates and action from the field. A great stride in species conservation demostrated through species population monitoring. Population monitoring, a simple yet valuable concept that informs wildlife managers in planning and implementing strategic interventions that yield positive results. Numbers tell a story. 👏👏👏
Zambia is home to the Luangwa giraffe, a unique subspecies of the Masai giraffe. For their protection, we continue to join forces with some obvious and other seemingly unlikely partners: the Zambian Carnivore Programme, Conservation South Luangwa (CSL), and the Zambian Department of National Parks & Wildlife help us to monitor the local giraffe population in the Luangwa Valley. During the first half of 2024, their teams recorded 853 giraffe sightings from the vehicle and 319 from the air. Through this collaboration, we continue to increase our understanding of giraffe numbers and distribution in Zambia.

Elephant Neighbors Center www.elephantcenter.org echoers the African wildlife organisations on the urgent actions in recovering the fast-diminishing biodiversity ! It’s described that 66 per cent of Africa’s wildlife has disappeared in the last 50 years or so , such species includes Gorillas, Pangolins, Bears, vultures , sea turtles and quite some monkey’s species are are disappearing. Africa, like most other places, habitat loss is the biggest threat to their survival. Declines are also driven by poaching for food and ritual use, poisoning ,poor spatial planning -road map , lack of development & infrastructure good wills , absence of the experts and governance . This decline highlights the urgent need to raise awareness about these challenges and inspire action to address them, particularly with the younger generation. After all, they are set to be the future protectors of our wildlife. However, highlighting the need to educate public on the reality of African wildlife and the urgent system changes required, my campaign dubbed “ Ivory Belongs to Elephants advocate for the inclusivity in addressing these underlying challenges using elephants known as the key stone species . #IvoryBelongstoElephants In my next 18th edition of the grass-root campaign walk, I will be walking from Nairobi – Addis Ababa #HornofAfrica passing through a very important ecosystems and water towers “Mt Kenya, Laikipia, Samburu, Omo Valley, Southern Ethiopia to Simien eco-region” et al. During these 90 days, I will hold several community , key informant and county government meetings withing the designated route in an attempt to arrive an amicable ground for an integrated conservation roadmap . #StepwithJim #AfricamBiodiversity #Bepartoftheplan

Chimpanzees play a crucial role in maintaining forest health and contribute to human well-being through income-generating projects like tourism. This year’s #WorldChimpanzeeDay is a reminder to intensify our conservation and #sustainabledevelopment efforts to protect these species and restore the natural ecosystems they inhabit. In the forest belt of #Africa, spanning from Senegal to western Tanzania, there are four subspecies of chimpanzees: Western, Nigeria-Cameroon, Central, and Eastern. They live in diverse environments, from rainforests to dry savannas and cultivated landscapes dominated by oil palm. The African Wildlife Foundation is actively conserving these chimpanzees with major programs in Cameroon, the DRC, and Uganda. Eco-guards in Bili-Uere (DRC) and Dja and Campo Ma’an (Cameroon) patrol to protect these animals and their habitats.
