    If you’re in the business of hiring, there’s one question that matters more than anything: What’s your why? In this new Hire Learning Podcast episode, I sat down with Michael Haarlow, VP of Strategic Partnerships at Spiras Health, and we got deep into his hiring philosophy. Mike shared his simple yet powerful approach: always ask about the candidate’s personal and professional “why.” If their “why” aligns with your mission, you’ve struck gold. It sounds basic, I know, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen this question get missed off of the interview process. And then leaders wonder why someone left 6 months into the job. A few other highlights for me during this conversation were: - Hiring for passion: Why understanding a candidate’s deeper motivation leads to better hires and long-term success. - The importance of uncovering hidden talent and promoting people who may not “fit the mold” but have untapped potential. - The emotional stories of how Spiras Health helps chronically ill patients live life to the fullest, including one patient who adopted a baby kangaroo to beat depression. 🦘 Mike’s advice on leadership and talent is priceless.     Don't sweat the small stuff. It's way too easy to get caught up in the day-to-day issues - but according to Kevin Stapp if you stick to your values everything else will turn out fine. Great advice to kick off Season 2 of Hire Learning! Kevin’s career in HR is impressive, but what really blew me away was his ability to stick to his values, and back people who don't usually get a chance. Growing up during apartheid in South Africa, Kevin saw inequality firsthand - and that changed his outlook on hiring and developing talent It's one of his core hiring philosophies that I really admire. “I grew up seeing people with incredible potential being held back just because of where they came from. That’s why I’m so passionate about giving people opportunities based on their potential, not just their resume or where they started in life.” That’s a powerful reminder that sometimes, the best hires aren’t the ones with the perfect resume—they’re the ones with the drive and potential to grow into something great.     We are #hiring an Outpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist. 📝 📍 Georgia, United States (remote) The Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS) uses clinical/nursing knowledge and understanding of national coding guidelines and standards of compliance to improve overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation within the patient electronic medical record. The CDIS works collaboratively with outpatient physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure that the clinical information within the medical record is accurate, complete, and compliant. This includes accurate documentation to support the capture of Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCCs) and ICD-10-CM specificity in outpatient visits. The CDIS functions as an expect source and educates members of the patient care team both formally and informally regarding the impact of documentation on patient care, quality metrics, (HCCs), and correct reimbursement. 👉 Interested in this role? This role will lead a team of analysts to provide guidance and oversight of credentialing new providers and maintaining current provider files for our quickly growing medical group. This hire will oversee the end-to-end credentialing process, including: submitting and tracking credentialing applications to various contracted managed care plans and government payors for oncoming providers; validating the accuracy of provider data loads in payor networks; maintaining accurate and updated data for all providers within the group; tracking the expiration of certification and licenses; support the markets with timely and accurate communications related to provider credentialing and provider data loads; and will act as a liaison between market leadership, payors, external credentialing service firms, and medical staff, including physicians.     We had the privilege of attending an inspiring session with Mr. Sayan Bhattacharya, Managing Director, MSH (India), who shared his remarkable career journey and the integration of technology and management. His insights motivated students to stay focused on their goals. Mr. Bhattacharya emphasized the importance of leadership skills and engaged students in discussions about diversity, active listening, storytelling, and empathy.
