The University of Maryland launched the nation’s first medical school in 1807, which makes Davidge Hall on West Lombard Street the oldest medical teaching facility in America. It was rebuilt in 1811 as a replacement for the original building, which had been burned down by an angry mob that had gotten wind of the spooky goings-on inside. Turns out that the study of the human body for scientific purposes was illegal for most of the 19th century. So the University of Maryland relied on stolen corpses provided by grave robbers, who were paid $20 per fresh body, which is the equivalent of about $400 in today’s dollars. While Davidge Hall is now used for lectures and office space, the building is replete with hidden spiral stairs that were used to deliver stolen corpses to the well-concealed dissection rooms. Do the professors and administrators who work in those rooms today feel a special tingle around Halloween? You can register for a tour at https://lnkd.in/eJ5i_6sc and maybe have an opportunity to ask them yourself! #TBT

Thank you, Baltimore! We appreciate the hundreds of people we talked to across the region about the BMORE BUS recommended bus service improvements this fall! We're already hard at work reviewing your feedback, and the comments you shared in person or online will be used to develop the final BMORE BUS plan, guiding MTA as we envision the future and work for additional transit resources. Visit mta.maryland.gov/bmorebus to learn more and sign up to receive BMORE BUS updates so you can be the first to know when the final BMORE BUS plan is complete. Thank you for helping us develop a visionary future for bus service in the Baltimore region!
