𝗨𝗔𝗦-𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 (𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴) 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 -- 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲! 🔋 “Fun fact: over 75% of new private cars registered in Hong Kong for the first half of 2024 were EVs. While this is a huge positive, this rapid growth also brings major challenges – which is why we’re pushing hard on the development of sustainable EV charging infrastructure,” noted Kelvin Chan, head of Urban Access Solutions Company Limited (UAS), a subsidiary of MTR Lab Company Limited. Kelvin recently sat down with JESSICA LAM of the Hong Kong Economic Journal, to highlight a key collaboration between UAS and PetroChina International (Hong Kong) Corporation Limited (PCHK). The goal is to jointly develop and manage more public EV chargers in Hong Kong to improve access, which follows the successful launch of EV charging services at MegaBox. "While the city’s EV transport popularity is booming, mass adoption still faces challenges – such as range anxiety," said Kelvin. "Making sufficient chargers available to the public is key to resolving issues like this. I strongly believe that, together with the right partners, we can make a meaningful contribution to Hong Kong's EV charging ecosystem." UAS and PCHK seek out and welcome more partners, including shopping malls and property developers, to drive the expansion of Hong Kong's EV charging network and pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future. 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐇𝐊 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean. When we see 7,000 citizens contributing 400,000 items for monthly recycling missions via the Carbon Wallet App – now that’s an ocean of change! Huge congrats to Chester Cheng, co-founder of our subsidiary Carbon Wallet who is leading the charge to a better planet with his team. He shared at the recent ReThink HK sustainability conference how consumers today are turning the tide with their proactive choices for sustainable ways of living. Champions of sustainability are rewarded every day for their green actions via the Carbon Wallet green lifestyle app. Chester exchanged views with fellow panelists: Edward Bell from Cathay Pacific, and Richard Petignaud from Bravo Media on a topic close to his heart - “𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨-𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞.” He noted, “today’s consumer education levels around sustainability are approaching critical mass as we see a growing group of early adopters in the city.” The biggest impact comes from consumer participation which acts as the “dopamine” effect for businesses to commit even more to sustainability. As business grows, companies thrive in the long-term and invest further in reinforcing their sustainability goals. A sign of better times and a better future to come perhaps? Who's excited for ReThink HK ? We can't wait! 🙌 MTR Lab has much in common with ReThink HK – we share the same mission, which is to propel innovative ideas and foster collaboration. For the 4th consecutive year, our parent company, MTR Corporation Limited 香港鐵路有限公司, is sponsoring this event, and this year MTR will be the Headline Sponsor for the Liveable Cities & Transportation Theatre. MTR, together with our Carbon Wallet, will offer free MTR rides to ReThink delegates through MTR Mobile App, encouraging them to use low-carbon transportation and practice a green lifestyle. Several of our MTR representatives will speak at ReThink, including Gill Meller, MTR’s Legal and Governance Director, who will present on “Keeping Cities Moving,” before taking part in a panel “Unpacking Transport Trends, Opportunities and Challenges in Hong Kong.” Our very own Chester Cheng, Co-founder of Carbon Wallet, will be on the panel talking about “Communicating with Consumers to Co-create Change”. Check out the carousel below to see all our speakers and the sessions they will join! In parallel to the exciting two-day conference, ReThink features a huge exhibition, so don’t miss MTR’s booth at F30, Hall 1, where you’ll also meet the masterminds* behind Jove, a brand under our subsidiary UAS. They will be showcasing Jove EV Chargers, along with other sustainability initiatives of MTR. We are all tremendously excited to don our ESG hats for ReThink and can't wait to dive into discussions that are important to advance sustainability in our city. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗩 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗩 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 Thinking of making the switch to an EV but are wary of charging network in the city? Worry no more - things are transforming in your favour. Here’s how! MegaBox, the iconic shopping destination at Kowloon East just amped up 22 of their parking spaces with EV charging capabilities, including 4 super chargers, in partnership with Urban Access Solution's (UAS) EV charging and smart parking platform, Jove. Not only will this enhance shopping experience for EV drivers but also equip the mall with a competitive edge. “MegaBox is proud to be part of this collaborative initiative that promotes sustainability and enhances the customer experience at our shopping mall,” 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗴, Senior Director of MegaBox, said, “By providing EV charging services, we are not only supporting the growing demand for electric vehicles in Hong Kong but taking convenience and accessibility up a notch for our valued customers.” “Such strategic partnerships are core to UAS's mission,” Kelvin Chan, Head of UAS, said, “With Jove, we are seeing partnerships materialise that will propel the city's green mobility adoption. Each stakeholder in the EV charging ecosystem plays a crucial role which will create real impact toward creating a more extensive charging network. We couldn’t be prouder.” One plug at a time, collective efforts are energising the movement toward an emissions-free future. Watch this space as we hope to unveil more charging spots in the future!
