  • MCVMA and PetDesk are pleased to announce the winner of the 2023 Veterinary Business Start-Up Grant, Dr. Simuel Hampton! Dr. Hampton runs a mobile small animal practice in Chicago's south side. With the help of the grant, Dr. Hampton plans to expand to a brick and mortar facility in the veterinary care desert of Chicago's south side. He also hopes the business will be a community stabilizer and positively impact the economic activity in the area. Thank you to Dr. Hampton and all of the applicants doing important and meaningful work in the veterinary field. We want to thank you for your commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in veterinary medicine.

  • Happening tomorrow! On Becoming a Veterinarian, My Story and the Lessons Learned: A Discussion with Dr. Jody Lulich Tuesday, November 14, 2023 7:00-8:00pm CT Some of us know what we want to do with our lives at a very young age. We see ourselves in our parents, our teachers, or our neighbors. Some of us, by chance, grow into what we want to become as we experience the world around us. And some of us answer a call to correct a wrong. Come with us on a journey from the South Side of Chicago to the Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama to an endowed chair at the University of Minnesota as we discuss with the author his recent book, In the Company of Grace, a veterinarian’s memoir of trauma and healing. MCVMA and Pride VMC present this live event with Dr. Pallavi Oruganti and Dr. Ewan Wolff serving as cohosts. The event is open to all and will be recorded with the recording link accessible after the event on both organization’s websites. Reg Link: https://buff.ly/3Qiyj5Q Dr. Jody Lulich is the director of the Minnesota Urolith Center. He holds the endowed Hills/Osborne Professorship at the University of Minnesota. He specializes in nephrology and urology and has earned an international reputation as a clinical investigator and educator in this field and has published more than four hundred publications in scientific journals and books, and awarded over $6,000,000 in funded research. Among his contributions to veterinary medicine is the technique of voiding urohydropropulsion, a nonsurgical method to remove uroliths in seconds from the urinary bladder. In 2007, he was voted as Speaker of The Year at the North American Veterinary Conference held in Orlando, Florida. He was awarded the Norden-Pfizer-Zoetis Distinguished Teacher Award in 2001 & 2013. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Tuskegee Veterinary Alumni Association in March of 2009, and the Mark L. Morris Life Time Achievement Award in January of 2012. He is the 2023 President of the prestigious R.O.C.K. (Research on Calculi Kinetics) Society, the first veterinarian to hold this office. In 2023, he received the ACVIM Lifetime Achievement Award. A published memoir of his veterinary career path, In the Company of Grace was released in April of 2023. He teaches indoor spin classes to stay fit. He lives in Minnesota with his husband, two dogs, one cat and studies classical piano. #veterinary #vetmed #mcvma #pridevmc #inthecompanyofgrace #tucvm #bettertogether #loveplusactionwins #vetmedpride
