Rosie the Riveter was just one of thousands of women who rolled up their sleeves and forged history during World War II. In steel mills across the country, women stepped into vital roles, proving their strength and skill in an industry once dominated by men. In 1943, a group of women steelworkers at Cleveland-Cliffs’ Indiana Harbor steel mill signed this plate to memorialize their contribution to the war effort, taking pride in the vital role they played. "Thelma the Riveter," "Norma the Riveter" and countless others played a crucial role in keeping the mills running. You can see this amazing artifact and more in Steelworkers, our newest exhibit! #RosieTheRiveterDay

We are deeply grateful to Marian “Cindy” Pritzker, one of Chicago’s greatest civic leaders, for her decades of service to our Museum and our city. Griffin MSI was privileged to benefit from her vision and dedication as a longtime member of our Board of Trustees and Life Trustees as well as the founder of our now-iconic Columbian Ball in 1981. Her impact on our institution and the city will be felt for generations to come. May Cindy’s memory be a blessing. https://lnkd.in/g3k5PFpX

If you've ever visited the Museum, your experience was likely made better, directly or indirectly, thanks to one of our amazing volunteers. In 2024, our dedicated volunteers donated 13,697 hours to help make science accessible and exciting for all. Whether greeting guests, putting on live science experiences or supporting behind the scenes, their time and enthusiasm shape the experience of every visitor who walks through our doors and we are beyond grateful for their contribution.
