"I believe our number one job right now is to create conditions that bridge cultural differences and different perspectives. I think art does that automatically just by virtue of being an object that you look at." —Madeleine Grynsztejn, Pritzker Director of the MCA speaks with Town & Country Magazine. https://mca.social/3xXktzK

Four years ago today we opened, "Alien vs. Citizen." Inspired by conversations about the visas awarded to "aliens of extraordinary ability" and other merit-based immigration policies, "Alien vs. Citizen" considered how an individual's value is understood in relationship to the community. The exhibition asks us to think about the way a person's value is determined in the United States, through mechanisms including citizenship, work, and personal relationships. The artworks are organized around these three ways of estimating worth, inviting us to consider the cultural biases embedded in each. The exhibition was organized by former Interim Senior Curator January Parkos Arnall. A full list of artists included in this exhibition can be found on our website.

Alice Coltrane changed the world. Her pioneering practice left its mark in music history, with her innovative style incorporating both gospel and jazz, leading to iconic works like "Journey in Satchidananda" (one of Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest albums). Once a profound musician, beloved spiritual leader, and pragmatic businesswoman, Alice Coltrane is now remembered as a deeply giving human, known for her emphasis on charity work, education, and spiritual guidance. Join us on July 21 with vocalist, Michelle Coltraine, daughter of Alice Coltrane, and harpist Brandee Younger for "An Oral History of Alice Coltrane." Part conversation, part performance, the event features oral histories and biographical stories of Alice Coltrane interwoven with performances and demonstrations from Brandee Younger, bringing the stories to life. https://mca.social/3RGvtYN
