Final Call for Artists in the Sacramento Region!! Request for Qualifications: Community-Engaged Art at the Wong Center Deadline: Friday, November 1, 2024, 11:59 pm. Mutual Housing California is seeking two artists or artist teams to create public art in collaboration with the residents of the Wong Center, an affordable housing community in downtown Sacramento. This opportunity involves two separate, large-scale community art projects: one for an indoor area and one for an outdoor area. Selected artists or teams will work closely with Wong Center residents and community members to design and create artworks. The finished pieces should celebrate and highlight the cultural, historical, and/ or social stories of the Wong Center community, creating a sense of home and belonging for the residents. In partnership with Art Tonic and Annie Ledbury of the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation, we aim to uplift the voices of our senior population and build stronger connections between residents, their neighbors, and the wider community. Visit arttonic.org/wongcenterart for more information, including the RFQ document, the application, and links to register for office hours. If you have any questions, please send them to mutualhousingart@gmail.com

We’re proud of our continued and growing partnership with HCD in delivering hundreds of affordable housing units across the greater Sacramento region. Just in 2024, we delivered/started construction on 347 units financed through HCD’s funding programs. In 2025, we will start construction on another 375 units across two projects in downtown Sacramento, made possible through the agency’s AHSC and LGMG programs. https://lnkd.in/gcXAHssw
Lives Are Changed for the Better Thanks to HCD Partnerships

Thank you to Sacramento Housing Alliance for this award in conjunction with the 10th Annual Sacramento Regional Affordable Housing Summit. We're honored to be recognized for this project—capping off the total lease up of 385 units in the last 10 months by our property operations team. The Mutual Housing California Wong Center Senior Affordable Housing project celebrated its completion last week. I'm proud to be on the board of Mutual and celebrate this major accomplishment for the city and our partners to show what we can do: 🏢 150 senior affordable units in the heart of the City's largest infill development. 🚞 Adjacent to transit and the City's central multimodal hub - Sac Valley Station, as well as the future Kaiser Permanente medical center. 🤝 Public private partnership between the State Treasurer's Office, City of Sacramento, SHRA, Downtown Railyard Ventures, and the Wong Center Board of Directors. 🐉 Integration of the historical location and role of Chinese immigrants and the Railyards with public art and engagement with the local community. (RFP still open! https://lnkd.in/gPYbQ9kn) 💗 Housing our elders in safe, affordable, and accessible units with dignity. From start to finish, concept to pre development to move in was about 5 years. it's the FOURTH project Mutual has opened in 2024. A huge accomplishment for the entire team! A special shout out to Roberto Jimenez and Danny Kolosta, and Keith Bloom (Mutual alums!), Danielle Foster (City alum!), as well as our Mutual team - especially Winter Chaslow, HCCP, COS-A (and her lease up team) for amazing work! Onward! https://lnkd.in/gNu9zxp9

Building truly affordable housing in CA is like putting together a difficult jig saw puzzle. Thank you Senator Angelique Ashby, Congressmember Doris Matsui, Sac Mayor Darrell Steinberg, SHRA Executive Director La Shelle Dozier, SMUD Director Rosanna Herber and so many others for creating quality and safe housing for 55+ year olds at the Wong Center in Sacramento.

"Before Wong Center, I was on a waiting list for 4 1/2 years, paying so much for a studio apartment, I could barely afford a meal and could not be involved much with my grandchildren. Now, I have more space, a little extra for visiting family using the Amtrak right over the bridge there, and I love all the community spaces for meeting and talking with my neighbors." -Wong Center Resident Speaker ICYMI, last week we celebrated the Grand Opening of Wong Center, our 150-unit community for people 55 and over in the Sacramento Railyards. We were thrilled to reveal the first phase of the community's art/history project while joined by our project partners, including the Wong Center Board of Directors, and over 200 residents who now have a safe, stable place to call home in the heart of Downtown Sacramento. We're beyond grateful for all our amazing Sacramento leaders and project champions who participated in the proceedings, despite the windy conditions. An extra special thanks to Wong Center resident John, his jazz bandmate Brian, and the Kim Quang Lion Dance Group for their special music and dance performances. https://lnkd.in/g8TMJJMy? #WongCenterGrandOpening #InclusiveEconomicDevelopment #InfillAffordableHousing Congresswoman Doris Matsui California State Treasurer Fiona Ma's Office Angelique Ashby Mayor Darrell Steinberg Councilmember Katie Valenzuela SHRA Executive Director La Shelle Dozier Wong Center Board President Richard Wong BMO U.S. Merritt Community Capital Corporation LDK Ventures Sunseri Construction Kuchman Architects, PC

Norwood Resident VG stated “I understand the propositions a lot better now and know how I will vote”. At Mutual Housing, we believe that every voice matters! Residents recently joined together for a ballot party to make their voices heard. They took time to gather in-person and learn with one another about the various propositions. We applaud Mutual Housing's residents for leaning into the power of community and the power of all our votes! 🎉🏡
