The Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Emergency Department recently partnered with the Brigham and Women's Hospital’s Neil and Elise Wallace STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation to host a Pediatric Emergencies Education Day. “Pediatric emergencies are rare but require rapid and precise action. These simulations help providers build confidence and proficiency in managing conditions such as respiratory distress, sepsis, and trauma cases,” says Karen Casper, MD, director of Emergency Medicine. By bringing STRATUS’s simulation training on-site, our teams were able to practice with their own equipment, collaborate across departments and enhance emergency response strategies.

We were honored to be recognized during the Mass Save Climate Leaders Ceremony at the State House for our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. Over the past decade, we have reduced our environmental impact through key upgrades—including HVAC and lighting—saving more than 1 million kWh in energy. “Our efforts not only support a healthier planet but also enhance the care we provide to our community,” says John Murray, director of Facilities at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. From L-R: Briana Kane, implementation manager at Cape Light Compact; John Murray; and Margaret T. Downey, chief administrative officer of Cape Light Compact.

We’re proud to highlight the incredible work of our staff, like Sarah Sylvia, RN. In addition to her role as a nurse at Martha's Vineyard Hospital, Sarah has spent the past four years volunteering at Harbor Homes, a local homeless shelter. Inspired by her brother’s struggle with homelessness, Sarah dedicates one day a week to helping the unhoused population on the Island, ensuring they have access to basic care and support. “They have wonderful stories to tell us … and when they share even a little bit about their life, it’s an opportunity to build trust,” Sarah shares. Thank you, Sarah, for making a difference in many lives on the island!
