Goodbye Old Friend. As we get ready to embark on a new chapter, we look back on the countless memories made within the walls of our old headquarters. This building holds a lot of memories for #TEAMMVP. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but #newbeginnings are even better, and we are excited to announce that we have moved to a new home. TRADE ALERT- JOINT STATEMENT BY ILA AND USMX Joint Statement Regarding Master Contract The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. have reached a tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to extend the Master Contract until January 15, 2025 to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues. This is my first role in Logistics after taking a Marketing job after college in which I worked for two years. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 2022 with a degree in Transportation and Logistics Management and have always been interested in the industry. I recently got married to my wife Samantha and when we are not working you can find us on the golf course, at the hockey rink, at the cabin, or doing some sort of outdoor activity. Born and raised in Minnesota, I am a massive Minnesota sports fan and hope for the very best when each season rolls around. I am also coaching hockey for the first time this upcoming season for Wayzata Youth Hockey Association which I am fired up about! "Thanks everyone for making my first couple of weeks very welcoming, I’m excited to be part of a very talented team! Prior to joining the workforce as an accountant, I obtained my Bachelors in Accountancy from the University of North Dakota. Upon graduating in May 2014, I moved to Minneapolis and joined the accounting firm Deloitte, working in the audit department. While in public accounting I obtained my CPA license and served many different industries ranging from oil and natural gas, to retail and manufacturing. Like many CPA’s, and after 5 years at two different firms, I decided to venture into the private sector and have held roles as finance manager, plant controller, and controller in the manufacturing industry. Outside of work, I enjoy many typical Minnesotan activities including, hunting, fishing, skiing, water skiing, and boating. I'm fortunate to be able to do many of these at our family cabin in Northern, WI. If I’m not doing any of the previously mentioned activities, you can expect to find me at a country concert, or rooting on any MN sports team. One other passion of mine is going back to my roots and working with my dad and brother on our family farm in Southeaster, MN. I’m happy to be at MVP and look forward to working with everyone! Welcome to a new surcharge acronym: WDS (Work Disruption Surcharge). This is due to the potential strike on the US East Coast. Hapag-Lloyd has just announced a WDS of 1000 USD/TEU into ports on the US East and Gulf Coast. It will apply to imports from all ports in North Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, Oceania and Latin America, from October 18, 2024, and is valid until further notice. Curiously it does not mention imports from the Far East. It should be noted that simultaneously Hapag-Lloyd has also announced a GRI of 1000 USD per container from October 17th for cargo from the Indian subcontinent and Middle East to the US East and Gulf Coast. Unless ILA and USMX find some common ground to either get a deal, or to extend the deadline for a new deal beyond October 1st, a strike is now just 12 days away. This means that all cargo which might be stuck in vessels waiting off the US coastline, or inside strike-impacted ports, is already on the water when related to deep-sea services including the Atlantic. Any shipper with inbound cargo on vessels therefore should by now also have a contingency plan for dealing with this. Shippers with cargo in vessels due to arrive next week would want to gate out incoming cargo prior to crunch time which will be Monday September 30th. This could likely result in a “fight” for available trucking and chassis resources. As it relates to exporters from the East Coast we are basically also coming up on crunch time very shortly as it pertains to getting containers stuffed, gated into the terminals and loaded on vessels. Today is day 279 of the Red Sea diversions
