Our founder, Stephen Burnsworth, recognized the tremendous challenges faced by local governments. The chaos and confusion that emerged from outdated technologies, the lack of resources and the inability to track large projects was staggering. In 2002, Steve created MyGov - a comprehensive, digital solution for municipal agencies and their citizens. Over the last twenty years, MyGov has partnered with hundreds of agencies across the U.S. to automate and enhance their systems and processes. At MyGov, we’re always working to improve the experience for our users. With the latest updates, collaborators can now manage inspections, licenses, and projects more efficiently. Here’s a quick look at what’s new: 1. My Inspections & My Inspection Appointments Updates We’ve made some changes to the Collaborators dashboard widget! - My Inspections now shows Collaborators their pending, hold, delay, blocked, or scheduled inspections for permits and license applications. - My Inspection Appointments lets both Users and Collaborators view inspections that are due today, past due, or due this week. Plus, you can now see the due date and who the inspector is for past due appointments. This update includes recurring and ad hoc inspections, too. 2. Anytime File Uploads A highly requested feature! Collaborators can now upload documents at any point in the application process as long as the User has enabled the “Anytime” option in Module Admin requirements —just make sure the request step is completed and the project isn’t archived. This applies to permits and business licenses and keeps your workflow smooth and organized. 3. Retained Sorting Sorting is now smarter! You can sort columns across all MyGov modules, and the sort order will stay in place until you clear your browser history. No need to keep re-sorting every time you log in. DOE spurs new building energy codes with another $90M "The Biden administration views updated building energy codes as key to tackling climate change. The administration’s plan to decarbonize the building sector, unveiled by the DOE in April, counts stronger local codes among its recommendations. Late last month, the DOE announced it is awarding 19 state and local governments a total of more than $240 million to adopt and implement new and innovative building codes that increase energy efficiency. Beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions, more energy-efficient buildings can keep occupants safer during power outages that coincide with extreme heat or cold, the DOE found in a report published last year. Houston saw firsthand the danger of such an event earlier this summer, when power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl overlapped with temperatures in the high 90s. However, building in compliance with stronger codes may cost more, which has prompted building industry players to push back on efforts to update codes. But more energy-efficient buildings also mean potential long-term energy bill savings for building occupants. Another challenge is that municipalities may struggle to find and afford the building code professionals needed to oversee compliance, especially as experts warn of an aging code official workforce that is not being backfilled by younger workers, according to Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships. The federal funding announced today is part of the $225 million Resilient and Efficient Codes Implementation initiative established under the 2021 infrastructure law. The first $90 million in awards under the initiative was announced for 27 projects last year. Focus areas for this round of funding include needs in rural communities, tribal nations and “high-impact states that have more construction volume than anybody else and aren’t necessarily on the latest codes,” such as Texas and others in the Sun Belt, the DOE’s Williams said." Are You Spending Too Much Time On Lien Management? Do you often find yourself overwhelmed by a mountain of questions, tasks, and reports related to lien management? You’re not alone. Many agencies spend excessive time answering basic lien-related inquiries, preparing documents, and calculating future payoffs. Fortunately, there’s a better way. Too Many Questions, Not Enough Time? - Does your team constantly face questions like: - How much is owed on a lien? - What’s the total amount due at a specific location? - What will the payoff amount be in the future? If answering these questions takes more than a few seconds, it’s time to consider MyGov. We’ve automated the lien process from start to finish. This includes lien filings, online payoff estimates, payments, and lien releases – saving you time and hassle. Tired of Preparing Documents? Every lien requires both a lien filing document and a lien release. Are you still creating these manually or using a word processing template? With MyGov, lien filing and release documents generate automatically, including mass releases. Even better, they auto-save directly to the related lien record, ensuring seamless historic record-keeping. Struggling to Track Outstanding Balances? If you’re unsure about the amount due on individual liens or the total outstanding for your agency, MyGov can help. Our intuitive lists and dashboard widgets give you real-time insights into outstanding balances, helping you stay on top of every detail. Stressed About Calculating Future Payoffs? As a Lien Pro, you probably get asked, “What is the payoff of a lien on a future date?” If calculating future interest and fees is a challenge, MyGov’s automated payoff estimate tool makes it easy. Just set the date, and you’ll get a detailed breakdown of the payoff, including future interest and fees. Want to make things even easier? Let your clients run their own estimates using the Public Portal – they can estimate and even pay online! It’s hard to believe 23 years have passed since that tragic day. Yet, the memories of loss, bravery, and unity still stay with us. Even the smallest act of kindness or service today is a way to honor those we lost. It’s a way to keep the spirit of togetherness alive, the same spirit that brought us closer in the aftermath of 9/11. Let’s honor their memory by continuing to show up for one another. 🇺🇸 #mygovus #buildingbettercommunities #governmentsoftwaresolutions

Multifamily permitting drops in urban areas "While single-family permitting is growing at a steady pace across the country, multifamily permit numbers are trending downward, according to the National Association of Home Builders’ Home Building Geography Index for the second quarter of 2024. The NAHB attributes this slowdown to the impact of tightening financial conditions on the new development market, among other factors. “Multifamily construction continues to slow as builders deal with higher rates, a shortage of workers and supply chain concerns for some building materials,” said Carl Harris, chairman of the NAHB, in the report. While these concerns also affect single-family, pent-up demand and a lack of resale homes are keeping single-family permitting afloat. “The strength in single-family construction at the start of the year continued in higher-density areas, matching other data indicating a gain for townhouse construction at the start of 2024,” said NAHB Chief Economist Robert Dietz. The recent multifamily slowdowns follow a record high of new apartment construction. Over 900,000 new units are underway, the most at once since 1973." Trees aren't just pretty to look at. They're also good for yew. "In 2018, south Louisville began going green in a big way. Researchers with the University of Louisville’s Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute planted more than 8,000 trees and shrubs in the four-square-mile neighborhood to test the hypothesis that living amid dense greenery would improve residents’ health. Now, six years later, the initial data from the Green Heart Louisville Project is in: Living closer to lots of trees can contribute to a lower risk of inflammation, which is associated with heart disease, stroke and heart attacks, and other health benefits. The findings offer government leaders quantifiable data to make a stronger case for the human benefits of supporting forests, said Aruni Bhatnagar, head researcher of the Green Heart Louisville Project and director of the Envirome Institute. “The biggest lesson is that we have to be thoughtful in our planting,” Bhatnagar said. It’s not enough to stick a tree in the ground and call it a day, he said, pointing to the importance of the types of trees used and where they are planted. Small canopy trees placed on the sides of roads, for instance, could end up trapping heat and air pollutants closer to the ground—and to residents’ lungs—because their leaves are too dense to allow much air flow, Bhatnagar said."
