We’ve been so proud to watch our Caregiver Support Program grow, thanks to our amazing staff and the support of community donors as well as grants. This video captures our program so poignantly. Watching our caregivers and their loved ones bond and create new memories at Ironstone Farm, a therapeutic horse farm is a really special thing. Thank you so much to ANDOVER COMMUNITY ACCESS AND MEDIA INC for producing this beautiful segment, to the wonderful team at Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm, and to the amazing families who let us share these moments with them. ***We’re offering two more farm sessions this fall, one in September and one on October. Open to anyone who’s a caregiver for a loved one age 60 and up or for someone with dementia/memory loss. Terri Fitzgerald from #TeamMVES has a new role, though it's an unofficial one: head of the International Olympic Committee of Malden, MA! 😆 Terri is MVES' Resident Service Coordinator (RSC) at 630 Salem Street in Malden. Like all our RSCs, she's mastered the art of turning a Supportive Housing partner site into a community. This week's gathering was perfect: It marked the opening of the Paris Olympics and also the close of Disability Pride Month. Residents donned French berets and snacked on croissants and jam for that Paris vibe. They also had their own competition, albeit a friendly and inclusive one: they faced off at Olympics Cornhole. The winners were honored in a medal ceremony while the Olympic Anthem played! Congrats to Tomoko (Gold), Kate (Silver) and Linda (Bronze). “What’s great about our cornhole games is that they’re very inclusive. All abilities and ages feeling accomplished!” Terri told us. As always, thank you to the MALDEN HOUSING AUTHORITY!

Like many success stories at #MVES, this one has “it takes a village” at its core. We recently had our first group of Revere residents graduate from our iPads Basics course. We’re so proud of their efforts and excited for the options this opens up for them! They were instructed by Carla Matute, our Technology Access Program (TAP) Coordinator at MVES, and assisted by volunteers Amy Seidenfuss and Laura Mercure. The City of Revere kindly let us offer the classes at Rossetti-Cowan senior center. The grads received an iPad upon completion, which MVES was able to supply thanks to a grant from Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. Our final community partner is the Revere Advocate, which shared the story through their paper and website. Find out more (including about volunteering with TAP) at the link here. https://lnkd.in/en2mHdz6 … #MVES #techequity #techaccess #digitalequity #TechEd #aging #agefriendly #olderadults #peoplewithdisabilities #agingservices #seniors #elders #elderindependence #revereMA

The Disability Pride flag is unique. It underwent a reboot in 2021 to reflect the wide array of individuals and abilities that it represents. The changes were also designed to better serve the needs of people with visual impairment, visually triggered disabilities, and more. Every design element, including colors and shapes, was carefully planned. Read about it here. In Massachusetts, we’re proud of the trails we’ve blazed, from the American Revolution to same-sex marriage rights. A lesser known fact is that Disability Pride Day was first celebrated in Boston. The first observance was in 1990, soon after the U.S. adopted the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). Since then, Disability Pride has evolved to become a monthlong recognition and celebration, observed nationally in July. When you see the Disability Pride flag, you’re seeing all that history, and all the advocacy that has gone into crafting and improving the ADA over the years. https://lnkd.in/ezF_zScg … #DisabilityPride #DisabilityPrideMonth #inclusion #accessibility #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityPride2024 #MA #MVES #ADA

MVES is both grateful and proud to announce we’ve received $8,000 in grant funding from Eagle Bank! The bank has committed to supporting two areas of our mission again this year: The Money Management Program, which helps older adults who are struggling to manage their finances, and our website, which is one of most important ways people find us and learn about the services available to them. Eagle Bank’s contribution is part of their ongoing support for our organization and their commitment to our community. Thank you! The Caregiver Support Program at MVES has been exploring new territory, thanks partly to our awesome team, and partly to a grant from Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services enabling MVES to foster caregiver respite innovation. We’ve helped families explore the benefits of equine therapy, Virtual Reality and more. Today, we kicked off the first session of an Art Therapy program designed especially for family caregivers. It was wonderful to see the caregivers take a little time to focus on their inner life and creativity! Our instructor, Erica Curcio from Art Therapists At Home, is uniquely qualified to work with caregivers as well as older adults and people with dementia and other memory loss. Erica will return to MVES for three more sessions. Interested? Check out flyer here for details. This complimentary program is open to anyone caring for a loved one who is age 60 and up or has memory loss, such as dementia. … #arttherapy #artclass #selfcare #MVES #caregivers #CaregiverSupport #FamilyCaregivers #alzheimers #dementia #ADRD #alz #malden #maldenMA #GreaterBoston #NorthShoreMA #MysticValley #OlderAdults #PeopleWithDisabilities #AgingServices #seniors

If there was ever a summer for an ice cream splurge, this is it! Mariia Filippova, our Resident Service Coordinator (RSC) at 120 Mountain Ave. in #Malden, recently hosted an Ice Cream Social. Mariia scooped up cones and sundaes galore, with tons of topping options. She had some backup from fellow RSC Roberto Tobalino, from our partner Supportive Housing site in #Chelsea. … #maldenMA #chelseaMA #aging #AgeFriendly #HealthyAging #SupportiveHousing #SeniorLiving #community #MVES #OlderAdults #PeopleWithDisabilities #AgingServices #ElderIndependence #seniors #elders #seniorcitizens #ElderCare
