Just in time for National Primary Care Week, Newsweek's new article looks at the 10 states with the least accessible healthcare in the U.S. It also quotes NACHC's landmark report showing nearly 1/3 of Americans don't have access to a usual source of primary care. Released more than a year ago, NACHC's findings remain relevant and closing the gap in access to primary care gap remains a priority to improve health in this country. “Tenia un sueño”… “I had a dream of what it could become,” says Mrs. Carmen Martinez, who we are featuring for Hispanic Heritage Month. Mrs. Martinez is one of the founding mothers of what is today San Ysidro Health in San Diego County. In 1969, Mrs. Martinez, along with several other mothers who had few resources, organized a community group to advocate for healthcare for women and children with no access to doctors. 🫶🏽 Mrs. Martinez worked during the day and at night met with stakeholders to establish San Ysidro’s first site, a little white house — “la casita” — staffed entirely by volunteers. San Ysidro Health’s Founding Mothers formed el Club de Madres to help their children and people in the community find affordable and culturally appropriate health care within their own neighborhoods. 👇🏾Learn about Mrs. Martinez, who just turned 101, and her legacy of hard work and advocacy to make healthcare available to everyone in her community, regardless of their ability to pay: https://lnkd.in/easavavU #HispanicHeritageMonth #HealthEquity

We must invest in primary care at a level that reflects its immense value. Primary care is the only part of the healthcare delivery system where an increased supply is tied to better population health and equitable outcomes. Yet, as the Milbank Memorial Fund has documented, the United States continues to underinvest in primary care. Currently, national spending on primary care is only 5-7 cents of each healthcare dollar. In their “2024 Primary Care Scorecard” report, Milbank Memorial Fund recommends greater investment in the nation’s largest network of primary care providers: Community Health Centers. #NPCW Graphic credit: Primary Care for America

NACHC's new Chief Science Officer, Dr. Peter Shin, delivered the keynote address at the second annual SDOH (Social Drivers of Health) summit held by KLAS Research. This year's theme revolved around providers collaborating with payers, vendors, CBOs, and government agencies.
As we opened today's SDOH Summit, we were honored to hear from Dr. Peter Shin, our keynote speaker, who shared a powerful message on the importance of collaboration in healthcare: “When health centers, financial supporters, and community organizations come together, we can build great bodies of work. There are several examples of this, but we need more. Partnering together can help us create support and move the dial to enable care for all people, regardless of their circumstances.” Let's continue to foster these partnerships and work toward a future where everyone has access to the care they need. Together, we can make a difference! #KLASSocialDeterminantsOfHealth2024 #KLASSDOHSummit Peter Shin
