“Today’s decision represents a major victory for clean water investment throughout the country.” CEO Adam Krantz said in a statement. “Public clean water utilities work 24/7 to protect human health and the environment and maintain and improve critical infrastructure. Today’s commonsense decision will help ensure that the Clean Water Act continues to do exactly what Congress intended – keep our nation’s waters clean and healthy through the imposition of clear, science-based requirements.” https://lnkd.in/eEc6f8J6

From the Safe Drinking Water Act to the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act, today’s ‘Water 101’ briefing on Capitol Hill highlighted the policies that keep our water systems running. Beyond the regulations, the discussion pointed to additional challenges we face — aging infrastructure, affordability and cybersecurity threats. The water sector plays a vital role in protecting public health and sustaining economic growth. The conversation was clear — collaboration between utilities, policymakers and stakeholders is essential for securing our water future. Now more than ever, we must push for policies that support infrastructure resilience, affordability and water security.

NACWA thanks US. Reps. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) and Celeste Maloy (R-Utah), co-sponsors of the Water Systems PFAS Liability Protection Act. This bipartisan legislation would provide statutory PFAS liability protections for water utilities under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, ensuring that polluters, not the public, pay for PFAS cleanup.
