Michael Best's Michelle W. Ebben, J.D., Thomas Gartner, Lauren Triebenbach, and Nancy Haggerty sat down to talk municipal special charges during our NAIOP Wisconsin Commercial Real Estate Forum. The funding for municipal operations is traditionally covered mainly by real estate taxes. However, we are now witnessing a trend where municipalities are introducing various “special charges,” such as transportation fees, emergency services fees, and “good neighbor” fees. These charges either cover services that used to be included in taxes or serve as conditions for development approvals.
The event, held in our Milwaukee office, included attendees from around the greater Milwaukee area who were eager to hear answers to questions like:
❓ Are these fees permissible?
❓ How do they align with the levy limits set by the Wisconsin Legislature?
❓ Do they comply with the Impact Fee Law?
Reach out Michelle, Thom, Lauren, and Nancy if you have questions or to continue the conversation!
