The significance of the convenience services industry in promoting food access cannot be overstated. NAMA and The Pepi Companies' recent visit to a SNAP micro market in rural Alabama illustrates this critical role. With 27% of SNAP recipients facing challenges due to their work schedules, micro markets and vending provide an essential lifeline, making nutritious food more accessible. Moreover, these vending machines and micro markets can be strategically placed in various settings such as workplaces, schools, hospitals and community centers, enhancing access for beneficiaries who might find it difficult to reach traditional grocery stores. For information on how to incorporate SNAP as a form of payment within convenience services, reach out to advocacy@namanow.org.

Convenience Services is an important partner in addressing hunger and food access across America. Yesterday, the National Automatic Merchandising Association government affairs team joined David Pemberton and Jaycie Preskitt Jipson of The Pepi Companies to visit the SNAP micro market at a chicken processing plant in rural Alabama. Nearly 1,200 employees from across the region work at the facility every day. The Pepi Companies micro market provides nutritious home style food, snacks, and fresh staple foods to folks who might not have alternative access to food retail over the course of their day. Thanks to David Pemberton for leading the way with humility and intention as The Pepi Companies shows how the changing context of convenience services plays an important role in connecting hardworking people with the food they need. Exciting insights from the NAMA Foundation's “State of the Convenience Services Industry Census,” released back in March! Key highlights below: 📈 The industry as a whole has returned to pre-pandemic revenue levels, but recovery is varied by segment. The key driver for industry growth has been micro markets, with 2023 micro market revenues achieving more than double that of 2019. 📊 Vending remains the largest segment within convenience services, but its recovery has been lengthier, with revenue levels just approaching that of 2019. 🚀 Future growth will be driven by technology acceleration, return to the office trends and a focus on new customer segments. As seen in the graph, the micro market channel is projected to see the largest growth at over five times their 2019 valuation. This census uncovers how the convenience services industry is evolving and adapting in a reshaped landscape. NAMA members continue to feature their impact on communities and the value of convenience services to legislators at the local, state and federal level. Inviting a legislator to learn more about your business is a simple step you can take to help legislators become advocates for the industry. Thank you to Deli-Matic’s Shane Spikes for hosting Virginia State Delegate Joe McNamara and NAMA’s Michael Hogg for a tour of their headquarters last week and discussing sales tax harmonization. #NAMAAdvocacy #NAMANow #ConvenienceServices
