About us
The first Nando’s restaurant opened its doors in 1987 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since then, the Nando’s flame has spread to 23 countries on five continents. Nando’s is known worldwide for its succulent PERi-PERi chicken, marinated for 24 hours, flame-grilled to perfection, and basted to the customer’s preferred flavor and spice. It’s equally renowned for its spicy PERi-PERi, the Bird’s Eye chili pepper that Africans introduced to the Portuguese centuries ago. Nando’s PERi-PERi made its U.S. debut in 2008 in Washington, DC. Today is World Malaria Day. Southern Africa is where Nando's began and it's also home to the majority of the world's malaria cases. Our co-founder Robbie Brozin also co-founded Goodbye Malaria, an organization that has reduced malaria in the region by 50%. (www.goodbyemalaria.com) Through the years, members of our team have visited Mozambique to spray homes and see Goodbye Malaria's efforts first-hand. "Spraying for Malaria was the most humbling experience in my life. To witness the amount of pride the people of Mozambique share in their communities was remarkable. The process was intense. It's 110 degrees, wearing a heavy jumpsuit facemask, face shield and carrying a 50 lb. tank over your shoulder. We were taken into the community by the experts who were hired and trained, all women, the typical breadwinners of the home. We were assigned to spray one home, when I received the greatest compliment that I ever could from our trainer. She told me I was a good sprayer; I could be one of them. They even trusted me to take the lead and spray my own set of homes. What an amazing opportunity.
