Latin America is on an extraordinary and ambitious journey in modernizing their financial ecosystem.   This past week I had the opportunity to spend time with our clients and employees in Brazil and Chile. I came back inspired and excited about the role Nasdaq is playing in supporting the growth and development of the financial ecosystems in those countries.   Recent announcements further highlight our progress across Latin America. These include our partnership with the Argentinian exchange group BYMA Bolsas y Mercados Argentinos S.A., of which we will run their entire post-trade ecosystem, ensuring they can meet future capacity and performance needs, along with our partnership with Nubank in supporting the bank’s expanded regulatory reporting requirements.   I also had the opportunity to sit down with Valor Econômico S/A to discuss the vibrant fintech culture and digitalization trends across the region. My favorite part was sharing how Nasdaq is collaborating with the Brazilian stock exchange, B3 to develop a new clearing platform, showcasing their leadership in market innovation.   Through these incredible partnerships we continue to work towards our vision to become the trusted fabric of the global financial system. We are more excited than ever to work with our clients as their trusted partner to provide mission critical technology as we enable them to drive innovation, overcome challenges, and embrace future opportunities.

Chair and Chief Executive Officer at Nasdaq

Choosing to modernize our market infrastructure and move to the cloud was a decision we made proactively. We took the time to think about the evolving needs of our clients, and decided it was a change we needed to make to strengthen our leadership in our industry. We made the decision despite some pockets of internal skepticism. “Why fix something that’s not broken?” was a common question. They had a point: we decided to make a fundamental change to our core market infrastructure despite having industry-leading and highly-performant technology. But we had unwavering conviction about the future of cloud technology and its inevitable impact on our clients and the financial industry overall, specifically in building resilient solutions and delivering innovative products. I enjoyed talking to Boston Consulting Group (BCG)’s CEO Christoph Schweizer about our internal journey to adopt cloud across our software solutions, culminating in the decision to move Nasdaq’s market infrastructure technology to the cloud.

It can be harder to transform a successful company than a failing one. But Adena Friedman, Chair and CEO of Nasdaq, did just that when she decided to move the exchange’s market infrastructure technology to the cloud. One key success factor was winning the buy-in of employees and the leadership team. Listen to our conversation below, part of my new CEO Moments of Truth video series: on.bcg.com/MOT_SPGlobal
